Fellow Aquarist,

After a few weeks of waiting, and several requests from past reefbreeders group buy buyers. I was advised by reefbreeders that they now carry Jebao Dosing Pump DP-4. I just want to point out if a doser fails it could wipe out every thing in your tank. I am by no means saying that these will. I just want to point out the obvious. If a single powerheads dies u have the return pump moving water still. So no major concern in the short term.

Roger,

Good point. Duly noted and very true with any type of dosing, pumps, chemicals, equipment or methods. Options can be available to help mitigate possible risk like battery back up or controllers/solenoid valves in CA reactors also float valves / leak detectors on ATO.

I have a bubble Magus which has been great for two parts and mag. Wanted a second unit for my 55 gallon planted tank so I can start using flourish products. Being that its new to market and for $95 , I am willing to try it on a more forgiving tank. Maybe get one for AA dosing and as a backup to my Bubble Magus.

I have worked in aviation all my life and always believe in fail safe. Soooo, on dosing, my containers are kind of self defeating as I only have max of 2 days dose in case of failure (failure in my eyes is run away). Having a doser, or ATO, or what ever does not mean you can forget about your system. Always think about what if i have a failure in the worst case. Then design for that. So my ATO is 1 gallon (2x my daily usage), my dosing is 2x daily and so on. I check morning noon and night my system. All the automation is nice to help consistency, but I never rely on it for only a single point failure. Like Roger, I have heard of system crashes for run away dosers, Ca Reactors, ATO, etc. NEVER set and forget is all I can offer here!!!

Mike,

Well said. You never set it and for get it. I have had 2 failures on CA reactor 8 years ago and a failure with ATO with Kalk (which I was lucky to recover from). The worse of all was Floyd in 1999 in New Jersey, 7 days no power. Then came the black out of 2003 which I thought a UPS that would last a day would help. What I didn't account for was the massive heatwave the northeast was having. lost must of my first 55g reef. The one that was pure luck of a save was on a cold day just checking heaters and noticed water was at 64 degrees. Both finnex 200 watt heaters failed Lucky a had a marineland 300.

Long story short I also apply your method on my dosing with my Bubble Magus to avoid over dosing or under dosing. To add I also have a small APC 250 UPS for short black outs.

Also Controllers help out.

All,

I was advised by reef breeders that the Jebao DP-4 doser comes with tube holders as well.

For those that wonder I went ahead and got one for my planted tank since I needed it ASAP. (Sucks for me as I only saved on shipping) But still want one for my 210 reef just in case bubble magus goes out and for the extra head. Hoping I get better pricing on the group buy.

So far I can say instructions are not the best as expected but that is ok as this doser also brings acrylic tube holders. Turning it on and setup was somewhat like my bubble magus. So far I only tested one head and I set it for 10ml. That is what got on my test after exhausting air bubble in tube line. Down side unlike bubble magus it does not bring hose. Its about the same size and is just as audible as my bubble magus. all in all not bad for $150 less.

This is what it looks like so far.
