ReeferRuk's 57g Oceanic Illuminata Build Thread

Yes, it's for my sump. Good point on the debris trap. My thought was to actually drill holes near the bottom of the tube, I hadn't considered slits like you used. Maybe I can start with holes and convert them to slits if I need to. I am currently using a filter sock to minimize the bubbles that make it through the trap but I prefer not to. I think the flow rate through my sump is high enough that the bubbles just get sucked through the trap. I considered adding two more baffles but that would be a major project. There are a few other ideas I want to try before I get into that project.

Your setup looks great, very unique, artistic display.

I feel your pain. I must have re-vamped my sump 4 times, 3 of which were changing/adding baffles... I would do as you said. Start with some holes, and keep them low. Let me know how you make out.

Thx Pascal,

Once everything stabalizes I'll make the trek out to check out your shop... :)

you are always welcome, though my little stash is thinning till i get my zoos under control. If you are going to try SPS again I'll make sure you get some nice pieces :)

Looking great!!! I really like your stand!!
how are you dealing with the heat that the lights down below make? Or have you had any heat issues with the lights down their completely sealed up? Is that little fan hanging on the back just blowing air around, or is it sucking fresh air in or pulling hot air out?

The fan under the stand more for ventilation than cooling. It is blowing air out so I don't get condensation (I don't have much electrical down there, but I do the the T5 ballasts).

I don't have a ton of flow going through the frag tank, so I was a little more worried about it holding temp rather then getting to hot. All my plumbing goes through my sump in the basement which helps keep things cool (I also have central air). I do have a fan down there if things do run hot.

I havent hooked up the 2nd set of T5's in the stand yet though... Something to keep an eye on for sure. I do have a digital thermometer under the stand to check the actual temp of the frag tank.
