Reefers in the Des Moines area?

Hey guys,

I'm a sophmore at ISU this year and I finally got an apartment this year and I've been itching to start a pico reef. My plan is a 2.5gal or 5gal (leaning towards the 2.5g right now) and stocking it with misc corals and a clown goby.

The plan I have is great so far except for 1 detail... What to do when I move back to chicago in the summer... I do have a 75gal reef back home, but not sure I want to deal with moving the saltwater things 6 hours away. It was a pain bringing my 4 red belly piranhas back home after last semester.

I was wondering if there was a market here for when I do move back for the summer, I would be able to sell off my livestock and keep the equipment till I move back in and start fresh. Or maybe even look for someone who would be able to house my livestock for 3ish months while i'm away.

Just testing waters here to see who's around... this section doesn't seem to be very active versus the CMAS area i'm used to.

I go to school in dubuque and i have a 30 gal that i transport back and forth from my home town in chicago. so a pico is nothing

well i don't exactly have a large car and I usually have a whole load already... I'm still trying to debate this fact... I'm not sure I want to be moving something like that back and forth... it would be ideal to find someone local to care for them for the summer

Good luck the problem I could see is that whoever takes care of them for you will have costs to keep it going and might get attached to some livestock I would love to help you out but once fish and corals come into this house I have a five year old girl that believes that they are all hers I held a tang for a friend till he got his bigger tank up and running and it was hell getting her to let him have it back

yea, those are good points. I would probably just end up selling them locally. I just wanna make sure that there is a market around here.

Yeah I see people selling there livestock around here and it's doesn't seam like they have a hard time doing it i would just move it a pico would be simple tommove and resetup small cooler with a battery airpump would do the job

if your just doing a 5 gallon tank just throw all the fish and water into a 5 gal bucket and then take rock and coral and put wet newspaper over them for the ride. and like what rottbo said get a battery airpump. i would say if you are going to set up the tank and then by summer try to sell everything, you should not set it up. trying to find someone last second to watch or buy everything is not worth it. you will lose money.
