Also how is the programing from the display unit. Non net version.

Familiar with apex and that is easy to program from web browser but not so much from display.

You cannot name outlets on a PC4 from the head unit. You can name outlets using the MyReef utility that connects the RKE to a WIndows computer.

Programming from the head unit is fairly straightforward. You push buttons to work through the nested menus and scroll through values for inputing setpoints. However, it is much faster and easier using the MyReef utility.

Possible with both through MyReef software, but you must have a SID as mentioned above and it needs to be the updated Version 2

What does this SID look like? The package i bought says it came with it but that was like a year ago, I have to rummage through a box to find it.

yes you can name with the rkl. you can either unplug your temp probe while programming or find a 6 wire y to leave the temp probe hooked up. They are not easy to find locally. It has to be 6 wire or you can mess up your controller.

Excellent. Also can u view say the ph temp and amp draw of 2 power bars on the main display screen like on the apex display

I could watch the temp and stuff till my comp locked up then nothing. I think you could see info as long as the program is open.

I guees what I am asking, is With My apex Display I can see:

Date & time across the top. Smaller fonts.

Then I can have 2 additional lines each showing 2 additional pieces of info in a large fonts.....

energy bar amp draws, or temp, or orp, or pH , or if you have multiple EB's you can view extra ones's same if you had more than one pH or temp probe, etc....You just tell it which ones you want displayed,

Just curious if the display on the RKE is that robust or limited.

The RKE will display 2 Info parameters of your choice on the display.
This is what I display on mine:

you can name the outlets on the display if you want. but like what was said, you need a sid2 adapter which comes with the unit. just bring a laptop plug it into any port adapter that is connected to any RK and just name away.

Thanks for the pic. I am debating now if the RKE is worth the extra ~$70 over the RKL Plus.....Seems like for my use all I am getting is a better display, but marginally better as it just seems to have a larger display and more color options and buttons. Hmmmm

Or If the Apex Lite if the way to go for the extra $$.

It all depends on what your planning to do. I've had a rkl and now an apex lite. The rkl can only expand upto 4 modules. So if you need more go the rke. The reefkeepers are easier to program overal but you can do less with them overal.

I have the full apex currently. And programming that is a breeze now.

I am looking to go a bit cheaper for a small QT.
Really all I need is lights(2 plugs), heater, ATO to control.

Skimmer, return, and ph's just need power. pH probe not necassary but maybe nice.
rkl plus can accomplish all this,
rke same but adds $70, but get nicer display....

Apex light does all but no pH probe(included) and about $130 more than rkl plus

I can get by with 4 outlets, but 8 would be ideal. either will do all I need, just comes down to cost and do I need/want pH, nicer display etc...

Do you know if the display on the RKE is much better in terms of use than the RKL display? I wan't a huge fan of the RKL limited display and buttons use?

The display on an RKE can display four lines of parameters if you want it to. The RKE head unit is quite a bit more robust than the RKL. Among other things it adds:

Bigger, easier to read display.
More intuitive programming interface.
4 Standby's versus 1 on RKL
63 module limit versus 4 on RKL
Display can be set for different colors. Alarms can flash red on the display.
