Reefkeeper owners

1package

This evening when I checked out my tank the temperature reading was over 100 and bouncing around everywhere, all exhaust fans and sump fans blasting. I knew immediately after checking the glass thermometer that it was a Reef Keeper I problem. I sent them an email and later looked on their site to find that I was not the only one having this problem, not even the only one in the area.

Replacement probes seem to fix the problem. I have only had my unit about 15 months and the probe was in the same place today as it was 6 months ago. A replacement probe is $15. I am going to order tomorrow, I suggest anyone who owns one to do the same thing. At this time I have no way to control heat/cool other than manual. I would give $30 for the probe if I could have it tonight, definitely something worth having as a spare - I am ordering 2 - I suggest you get a back up if you have a ReefKeeper, it appears as though it is not an uncommon problem.

Someone with a smaller tank, chiller or out of town could see a huge temperature drop resulting in bad things.

Thanks for the heads up! I will do the same. I am also thiniking of going up to RK2. What do you think ?

Take a look at their forum. There are several options that people are requesting that are not yet available. These options are perhaps going to be available later this summer (so the site says).

It appears as though that Aqua Jr. may be the better route - do not know. I am not upgrading unless I see a major crash.

I am ordering 2 Temp. probes this afternoon. I can definitely say that I am not happy with the fact that I need to order one and due to me not being the only one, I am not sure that it will not happen again.

I did not have a controller for the longest time. I realize now that a controller is like a DVR or email, once you get one you will never know how you went without it.

ARRGGH don't say that. Now I want one. LOL

I really use mine only for the lights and for a temperature controller..........single source, which is nice.

The thing I like about the temperature controller is the fact that it can be calibrated. Every thermometer in the water use to read a different number.

Since I use multiple fans as the temperature increases, it is really good. The 15 minute delay on firing MHs back up if there is a power interuption is also good.

Yep that about sums it up, and when it's not working you really notice a difference.

Not sure you are wanting the RK - now anyway. They must make those things in a garage somewhere. Sent order on Saturday for probe, they sent confirmation on Saturday, they took their money on Monday - no phone number on web site, no check order status on web site, order status from confirmation just says, "received order" (figured that when they took my cash).

Starting to have my doubts about that bunch. Controller has worked well up to now, hopefully they will pull it out, hopefully my probe will beat me home today and they are providing low cost at the expense of overhead (phones, web service, etc...).
