ReefLink Capabilities

Well-known member
I just got the email stating that ReefLink will be hitting the store shelves in mid November.

While it will be nice to be able to control my pumps and lights wirelessly, I am not sure if I want to part with $200 to do so.

Does ReefLink have other capabilities of which I am unaware?

just get the WXM for your Apex and as soon as Fusion comes out you will be able to do anything and everything from there.

As a factory supported solution, the features that go along with and will be introduced for the Reeflink will be unmatched by and unaccessible to other alternatives. The Reeflink and EcoSmart Live are the foundation upon which our company's future will be built. This means new EcoTech Marine products will be delivered to market which will all interface through this device.

Radions and VorTechs are only the beginning.

So far I'm not being sold on this. Between the headaches with ESL so far, and the way pricing has been handled with the upgrades, I'm more than skeptical. The other big issue is that the we are still dependent on the ESL servers and out of luck when they go down on the weekend. What are Ecotech's plans to solve the down-time issues with ESL? Most mission-critical software meets the 5 nines benchmark and I'm not seeing this with ESL. In fact, I will not even touch my light on the weekends for fear of losing control of it and being without it.

I see a possible hint for a interesting future.
Unlike some here, I check my emails for a beta notice everyday.

I am in charge of maintaining a WWTP and in the process of upgrading our entire plant control systems, we are about 60% done.

Find it very interesting your approach with the design of the Reef Link.
Our SCADA Systems can be control remotely through a website we host, like your ESL site.
If Siemens believes the best and secure way to control a remote system is through a web server, I believe your heading in the right direction.

I am lucky enough to be part of the reef link beta. ESL has come a long way and is pretty stable now a days since they upgraded the servers. The reef link does what it is supposed to and I am pretty happy with it. I have no clue what the future holds but If it continues to automate my tank I will be happy (and release those radion arms!)

ReefLink Capabilities

I'm a bit nervous about it myself. I purchased the original Radion and it was touted as fully upgrade-able. It was my mistake to assume I would be allowed to install the upgrade components myself.

When gen 2 and then Pro arrived it seemed a hell of a lot easier to sell the inferior product and buy the upgrade rather than to force the product through the upgrade process. I had the gen 1 and upgraded to a pro, it was painful. I purchased and additional pro so I had a pair.

I don't want to double pay, I don't want to hassle with shipping and receiving. If the future of reef link involves either shipping the unit back, or selling mine to buy another..... I'm not interested.

I should mention though, I do love the two Radion Pros and my mp40. I was one who did NOT have any problems with the ESL beta.

I agree with you 100%

I am really dissapointed by your post, basically what you are stating is that we need to buy this 200 dlls device to wirelesly control future products you might be developing/releasing in the near future, well that sucks, i guess i am not going to buy anything from a company that keeps gauging money from me, i do have vortechs and radions, but it looks like i am going to wait for the apex release of their new software upgrade that along with my wxm will control these devices

No one is twisting your arm to buy more products, it is just like anything if you want the feature then pay for it.......why complain????

Because like you, i too have a valid opinion, point of view, complaint, reason, post, comment, call it what you want, so there

Is no one allowed to express their opinion if it doesn't agree with yours? Maybe those who are considering lights, pumps, controllers, foods, anything else to do with the hobby would like to hear a variety of opinions.

I am confused by your disappointment. You are mad that they released the first part of the master plan for an wireless integrated system? You know that it is a hub device? It right now controls the radions and the vortechs (shortly).

Yes but for 200 dlls, which for the price that the radions are they should have been wirelesly controlled right out of the box, if you want to get it go ahead, i will wait for apex fusion

Your right in the fact that you're entitled to an opinion. No argument there. You're wrong in the fact that you state its a "valid opinion". What makes it valid?

Oh, and a post, comment, reason, or complaint is only helpful to others if its....well valid, and therefore educational and meaningful. Otherwise, whats the point.

Me knowing that the ReefLink "in your opinion" is overprice, or out of your budget, or even the simple fact that you choose not to purchase it because of X, Y or Z is absolutely helpless and does little to persuade me wether to purchase the ReefLink or not.

So my question is: Whats the purpose to your rant? Reason I ask is because it's sure not meaningful, educational, and most important.....valid.

Such irony because your entire post is as useless as it comes. As owner of multiple ecotech product I too am very disappointed that they would use this reef link as their base of extension on future products, thus eliminating any chance with those who do not want to fork out the money for something that should be implemented within the already high cost pumps and lights.

The business model is being in question. The product is a great product and comes at a premium price. Should owners /future owners not want more? We should all accept mediocrity and buy what they put out. You sir sound like another sheep. I too will wait for the fusiom update.

People can be such a fickle lot can't we. We demand wireless capabilities, but when it is offered, we complain that it should do more for less.

People's reasons to buy or not to buy are based mostly on speculation at this time. The price point "seems" rather expensive for the device's current capabilities, but if the unit has the ability to control all aspects of the tank in the future, $200 would be a fair price for the basic hardware.

I would not be shocked or dismayed to find that additional expansion modules are made available for purchase later.

Wow you did read my posts above right?, i am writing about a product that is 200 dlls and will be the base of conectivity or control of future products from a company that sells great products at a high price with limited control (wireles control that is), So your opinion is not valid nor educational nor meaningful either, LOL
