Reeflux 12K

So I just changed my XM 10K bulbs to the Reeflux 12K. My initial reactions are this...the bulbs appear tooo blue and seem dim compared to my XM's. Do the bulbs need time to burn in? Will the color change over time as well? How is the PAR rating in relation to the XM? Will I get decent coral growth? I know it's not going to be a good comparison but so far I'm not all that excited with these 12K bulbs. Any thoughts? I know a lot of people out there have these bulbs and have been happy with them, so that's why I have to question. I may be one of the only ones out there that prefer the whiter bulb in comparison. Maybe it's because I run VHO actinics as well.

SE or DE? I love the bulbs but I find them pure white. I need actinic blue to get any blue ting. I run one blue and one 50/50 actinic with them and it's perfect for me. Growth and coloration are great but I can't compare to XM ... always been skeptical of those and they aren't highly rated IIRC. I switched from Ushios and ABs and find the Reeflux better in every respect.

The tint will slightly change over time but not much.

I have a reeflux 10k that I am not using if you wanted to do a side by side comparison. Its a DE lamp. Let me know

I am using a SE lamp so the DE offer would not work...thanks though. I really liked the XM 10K's for growth...very high PAR. Hopefully these new bulbs will burn in and be less blue.

blackdack, how much time to you have on the 10K? I'm using a 12K now and would really like to see what a 10K looks like, just not really interested in shelling out the 60+ bucks.

I used it for a few weeks... Its really bright and white (not the pink that has ocurred in the past) I just didnt care for it and went back to the phoenix 14k. Mine was on an ARO e-ballast.

i have the 12k and also the Blue Wave®2 Dual PS Ballast MH250 Watt and i thought mine look really blue also at first. now about a month in and looks a lot more white. i also have 2X 54 T5 blue aticnic. but just this week i dont know if this is why mine are more white but i was unpluging somethings and they turned off and then on like 3 time in about 5 min dont know if that is bad but now all is good and seem much brighter.

come see my tank.. i love the 12 k reeflux.. with icecap electronic, i have both DE and SE over my systems.. my corals grow GREAT..

i dont know about brightness, but they have run longer and stronger, and continued color than any other bulb i have tried.
It does take a few weeks to burn in, but I hear they run Whiter on the Magnetic ballasts

Jason-
Weren't you running Hamilton 14K's for the longest time? I'll definitely stick with the bulbs as it sounds like I have to give it time. I guess I am so used to the whiteness of the 10K.

Addiosoms-
Thanks for the input. I should get together with you sometime when I visit my fiance' parents place in New Lennox. I have lot's of corals to offer you.

I run my Reeflux 250's on an HQI ballast and they were very blue (IMO too blue) for the first week, then they became white. Mine do appear a lil' dim, but I somehow managed to bleach a chalice on the bottom of my 120gal , so I guess that they're providing enough light.

on an M58 the 12K will be very blue, even the 10K may be too blue compared to the XM. They do burn in and become less blue but I am guessing that the 12k will still be too blue for your likings. On an HQI ballast or an electronic ballast they would be brighter/whiter The reeflux is one of the very few lamps that actually run well on an electronic ballast

Are you guys running these bulbs like any other, 1yr.? I've typically run my for that long and then switched them out.

sounds like I have I backwards..

Only with the reeflux.

Most lamps (XMs for example) are under driven by electronics and run more blue on an electronic with less PAR. whereas a magnetic (M58 )will drive them nicely. (more PAR and more white)

The reeflux were disigned to run on the Coralvue electronic ballasts (any electronic??).

just more confusion in th elighting game :)

Yes, I get pretty close to a year out of them unless I splash them with a surge
