Reefobsession 93 Cube Build!!!!

so you received the corals today and haven't put up pics yet? What's up with THAT? :D

Has your Jaw started digging yet? I have to take a look tonight and test the structural integrity of my rock.. which is CRAZY because I have 2 rocks in my tank and the smaller one is at least 10 lbs.. lol.. oh.. He also claimed my Red People Eaters (and three other zoanthid frags) as doors to his cave.. Bozo is a good name.

I wanted to post, but my tank water is a little cloudy and I have my 400watt dialed down to 250HQI so that my corals can adjust. Cutting my radium down to 250 really makes it blue, so it is really hard to take pics. My jawfish has allready dug and found a perfect spot for himself. It is a natural cave and he dug a little deeper to make some room for some furniture:p I chipped up some dry rock for him to build tunnels with. I would suggest this for you so your jaw won't use your corals haha. How come I haven't seen any pics of your jaw? jk
I really need to get a nicer camera that can handle the brightness and blue hue of the radium.
I am a little disappointed with the clam I received. They claimed that it was supposed to be 5", but it is only 2.5" And the blasto they sent me is really pretty but it is smaller then a dime. The quality is there but the size is lacking a little. I would still order from them again, just might need some more information on the coral before I spend the money. It's all good. Joleen is a really nice person to work with.

Sorry if this sounds cold.

Not at all. I nearly picked one up locally...store was selling him for $70, and he was a good looking fish, been living in their frag tanks for at least a month now. I haven't brought him home yet, but man would I love to have him. Beautiful fish!!! I'm just afraid that a 2 month old tank, that's had no problems to date, when that first problem does come, I would lose that $70 fish.

Alright Eric, you made me feel bad so here are some night shots of some of my corals and some of my new equipment additions. I got a little teaser of my jawfish. If you look really close at the last pic you can see his blue spots. I am overjoyed about the rainbow welsi, and the bluespot. I would have got a pic of him before I put him in the tank, but my fiance had my camera for the day. Well enjoy the pics. Got some LED's to light my sump at night to keep my PH above 8.0. It has so far. I know I need to clean up some of the wires in the background.
Now these pics do not do the corals any justice. The colors are washed out and the camera is unfocused. It is pitch black in the room. I need a better flash to get a great pic.

I go through your same feelings before bringing a fish home. $70 isn't that much money in this hobby, but it is alot of money in the real world. :hammer:
It is much more comforting that the fish has been there for a month. I would be comfortable buying a fish that has been at a store for more than 2 weeks.

Talk about risk taking. I bought my blue spotted jaw that just got to Atlantis on Tuesday. They said that they have been getting some really nice jawfish recently, so I took his word and took a $90 risk. So far so good. Bozo has already chomped down a ton of mysis. I am going to try spectrum and flakes tom.
Thanks for stopping by.

Nice build..

I had good results getting the dust out by letting it completely settle then using a vacuum. You can actually get quite alot out with relatively little water by sticking the tube straight down and all the way into the sand, let it flow a sec to pull the dust, then pinch the tube so the sand drops out and move to another spot. I was able to clean the dust completely out of mine in less than an hour or two.

Good Luck with the tank!

thanks for posting those pics man! Looking good.

Really like the wellso.

My Jaw doesn't eat anything that isn't a few inches in front of his burrow, but hopefully that will change when he gets more comfortable. Do you soak the mysis in anything? I use selcon and it seems to evoke a better response. (Not to mention it's better for the fish).

I like the dosing bottles as well. Simple, but that's a good thing. Do you have any more information about your dosing system? (Other than the bottles)?

I'm looking into dosing as well, but other than 2 part, I'll have to wait a bit. (Wedding spending is a higher priority right now.. d'oh:hammer::hammer:)

Thanks for that info, I will have to do that when I do my next water change. That sounds promising that it only took you an hour or two.

Yeah this is why I am getting my tank built two years before my wedding. Congrats on the wedding.

I dose 2 part from bulk reef supply and my other two dosing pumps are for vodka and MB7. I am following SunnyX's recipe. Thanks on commenting on the corals.

Bozo was pretty aggressive about eating, he didn't venture out Very far but he would snatch any food within a foot of his den. I don't soak my food in anything. I hope he will take pellets tom

Hey no problem at all. Just make sure to drill a 1/4" hole and to attach a small 1/4" tube, because the air bubbles cause some water to come out of the hole. It worked wonders for me.

Nice tank, I too will be building a 30x30x24. So on your drain, is there just a straight pipe inside your overflow? How far in do you insert the 1/4" tubing? And do you use rigid or flexible 1/4" tubing? This would work perfect because on my next tank i want my return inside the overflow to keep the backwall as clean as possible which would leave no room for a durso setup.

Thanks! As far as my overflow it is a rigid 1" tube that has a 90 degree elbow on top with a 1/4" hole on top to let air escape. As far underneath my cabinet, I used 1" flexible tubing all the way to the sump. Then as you can see in this pic I used a 90 degree elbow with a short piece of 1" tubing. Then I connect with a T and have another piec of 1" tubing going up with an end cap. I drilled a hole on top and just shoved in 1/4" flexible tubing about an inch. Whater kind of spits out of it so make sure it is pointing down inside the sump. You can hear it a little when you have the door open and put your ear by it, but when the doors are closed you can't hear a thing. Here is the pic again to help you out.

Good choice on the 30"X30"X24" cube tank. I love the tank and so will you. Learn from my mistakes my friend and show me your build. :D Good luck.

Just a comment which might help your setup. I have the 60 cube with the Marineland stand as well, and on the inside of the stand, on the bottom I put some thick rubber "shower pan" available at Home Depot to catch any spills (usually like a few drops up to a shot glass) from when I'm doing anything down there.

Just a thought because that water soaks into the wood quickly, and if it gets around the wood, then it's on your carpet in a place that you can't clean.

Here's a pic of what I did and how it came out.

Just sharing because I'm definitely stealing your overflow idea with the 'durso' as that looks like it would cure my glugging/splashing mess! =)

Wow that looks great. Good idea on that and I will have to do that when i move next. Wish you would have stopped by before I filled the sump. Use that durso idea. I learned it from someone else. That's the best thing about reefcentral, you learn from others ideas and mistakes. Every time I build a new tank it gets better. Thanks again

Yep, you can take bits & pieces of everyone's setup and make what works good for you. I like that too...

(as I have another window open, designing a new stand using 80/20 extruded aluminum LOL).

Well I am really glad that I have a screen top, because today my jawfish decided it would be fun to jump up and ricochet of my screen top and go into the overflow. I was looking for him all day and then I saw him all puffed up at me in the overflow section. I gave him a little ****ed of look right back :furious:. I had to drain all the water from the overflow and pick him up and put him back in the tank. It is unbelievable because their is probably a 1/2" clearance between the top of the overflow and the screen top. It was 1 and a million jump. I have all ready signed him up for the pol-volt for the next summer Olympics. :spin2::spin2:

On a sad note, my rainbow welso got damaged in shipping and is tarting to recede some tissue on the rim in two small spots. A lot of people say this is not a good sign. Contacted Atlantis and they said they would reimburse me if the welso goes bad. Good
