Reefobsession 93 Cube Build!!!!

I need to get some snails tom. Starting to get a little brown algae on my glass and sand. New tank syndrome. I will be getting my I-tech 100 on Wednesday. It's kinda bitter sweet I am really impressed with the octo cone performance. It is just tight in my sump.
 
just saw the pictures of your clowns (finally got a new computer.. was looking on my blackberry for a few days..) .. They're looking great! I'm sure they're loving their new digs!

Hey thanks! I want an update on your tank. Hows it going? Got any new pics?
 
my tank's going well.. just progressing very slowly. My funds have run low with the wedding and the laptop essentially jumping ship and refusing to turn on.. lol..

But...... I was able to trade a few zoanthids for a nice 8inch RBTA, so that's exciting :cool:
 
Nice! I want to get an rbta but I think I need to wait a couple of months.

Well, guy backed out of the skimmer trade. I think I am going to just hang on the skimmer. It is hard to get the skimmer cup off because of my short stand. It is manageable though. I am kinda glad he backed out, because I really like the octo cone. I will just have to modify my sump when I move next to lower the water level.
 
Alright, well not much new, but I got some pics of my tank and I am loving this radium. It has really burned in nicely! Tank is clear and I cleaned all the dust out of my display tank. I gave my skimmer a nice vinegar bath to get all the sand dust out of it. Next thing I will be doing in a couple of weeks is getting some SPS. Well here are some pics enjoy!

How do you feel the floor space is on this size tank? I will be upgrading from a 40 breeder and this is currently the size i plan on going with, I plan on using olnly the rock now and spreading it out, creating islands and lots of open swim space.
 
I've been following the thread, its really starting to look good. I'm hoping to start something similar soon so your venture will be my template.

I might be answering this wrong so correct me if I am. :thumbsup:
The dimensions of this tank allow you to really spread things out. 30"X30" is a lot of real estate. I don't know of many tanks that are deeper than 24" so it gives you allot of room to play with. I think a minimalist low profile multiple island look would be fantastic for these dimensions. I was trying to go for the bonsai style layout and wanted to have alot of open space in the front and in the back. Now I kinda wish I would have done what you are planning on doing, or started from the back of the tank forward. I have a lot of open area for my bluespot jawfish and my wrasses to dive in the sand for bed. I plan on getting more wrasses, so I have plenty of bedding. :lmao:
In regards to your 40 breeder, which is one of my favorite tanks, you will have much more room and options for your rock work. I went from a 72 bow and I had very little depth. This massive amount of depth is what drew me to this tank.
Don't get me wrong, I like my rock work, it is definitely original. I will just rearrange when I move in a year or so. I'm a college student, so I don't even know when or where I will end up. The only thing taht is certain is that I will be graduating December of 2010:sad2:

There is nothing more rewarding to me for someone to look at my thread and learn from my strong points and learn from my mistakes. If there are any strong points:lmao: Thank you, it means a lot to me. Obviously there are better tanks on this site than mine. But I am really happy with how things are turning out. If I had to do it over again this is what I would have done differntly in order.
1. RINSE MY SAND BETTER BEFORE PUTTING IN MY TANK:fun5:
2. Build my own stand.
3. Build a light hanger out of conduit so I wouldn't have to hang from the ceiling.
4. Redo the rock work. I am pretty happy, but It's not perfect.

Every build has gotten better and better. I will just have to set up a thousand tanks before I get half as good as some of the people on here. :rollface:

Are you running a 250w or 400w halide? I noticed the balast that you are using is one I have interest in when I eventually set up this same tank. Also what Lumenbright did you buy? How is the spread on it for this tank?

I run a 400W bulb. I love the ballast because I can easily acclimate new corals. I can dial it down all the way to 250W and work my way up to 400W. I tried the 400W HQI and it is really bright. It hurts my eyes when I go in the room. So I have left it at 400W and like it.

I have the large lumenbright pendent and it spreads really well. I have no spill over. I don't have a par meter on hand, but will look into getting one or borrowing one sometime to get some numbers.


On another note I sold my octo cone and bought a new SWC 160 cone skimmer. This skimmer seems perfect for my setup and will allow me to have a lot more room in my sump. It is also shorter by an inch so I will have a lot more head room. By no means is this skimmer lacking, it pulls 21 SCFH. I know it is a downgrade in performance, but the octo was overkill really, this skimmer will do just fine.
I will be getting an air meter to do some tests on the attman pump. Should get the skimmer tomorrow.

Do you make these adjustments on the 400W bulb or change bulbs?
