I have the reefoctopus 150 recirculating mod, newly received, My question is, at what position do U want to have the ball valve, or at what level do I want to have the water at in the neck of the skimmer? Someone please help as I don't have ANY instructions and bought the skimmer secondhand.

I have a reefOcto Ext 300 which runs best at about 8" of water. Not sure but the 150 probably works best around that range ...

I have an Octo 150 Recirc as well. The water level in the sump doesn't matter a lot as the skimmer is outside the sump.

I have my water level just above where the collection cup attaches to the skimmer body. Just up the neck maybe an inch. Seems to work very well there

do u have the new 2009 model with the bubble plate?
i have my waterlevel around 1" up the neck, sometimes it goes lower, sometimes higher. u dont start getting "wet" skimmate untill its about collection cup level, or higher.
o yea, make sure ur feed pump doesnt flucuate flows, i have mine tied into the drain. if ur feed pump get clogged up or something, and then power goes out, ur skimmer will overflow when power kicks back on, as everthing clogging the pump up flows out and the pump is at a higher power. thats my only beef with these externals
