Reefpack 200 Microbubble problem with surface skimmer NOT protein skimmer

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem I have been having? My reefpack 200 is producing Microbubbles from the nanocleaner, surface skimmer part of it...? I set my water level, and this is maintained with the osmolator and it works fine for a week or so (every so often it will spit out a mass of bubbles). Then I will come in one day, and the tank it absolutely flooded with them. The water level drops so low in the nanocleaner compartment and this is then drawing in air. I have tried lowering the nanocleaner in relation to the protein skimmer, by using the second set of holes which mount to the magnet... this still does not fix the issue. I could try and throttle down the pump a little, however, this then makes it quiet noisy...

My KH is about 10 and my Ca is about 420ppm.

Does anyone have any idea what I could try? Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks very much in advance...

What media do you use in the filter? Keep in mind that the floss should be packed in very lightly and any media should be placed in loosely.

Hi Roger,

I am using rowaphos, polyfilter and the floss that is supplied with the unit. I do change the floss weekly - however - perhaps this is why it works for about a week and then I have problems... I will try changing this more often and putting just a fine layer of the floss in.

Is it normal to get periodic bursts of bubbles from nanocleaner?

Thanks very much for such a fast reply, very much appreciated!

Best Regards,
Karl

Yes, with that much media it will produce bubbles, it basically starts to create a vacuum and degasses the water as the media clogs. I would alternate between medias and probably leave out the floss entirely.
