ReefPack 500 in 30 cube

I'm in the process of setting up a 30 cube. I am interested in using the ReefPack 500. I like the idea of the all in one package and Tunze quality. I am a little concerned over the size of the unit in a 30 cube. I am willing to put up with a little oversized unit for the simplicity of the unit. Can anyone using the ReefPack tell me if they are using it in a small tank and how it looks/works in a smaller tank? Thanks for your input.

Roger, your input would also be appreciated.

Too big, did it in a 37 cube. A 9005 is the sole filtration on the tank now and it works beautifully. The Nano Streams agitate the surface enough to eliminate any film, so I don't need a surface skimming filter taking up valuable real estate.

Are you saying that it is to big in the 37 cube also? I don't think there is a big size difference in the 37 and the 30 is there?

Also, is the 9005 pretty quiet? That is the problem that I have now with a Deltec MC600 that I have on another 30 cube. The skimmer skims great but it is loud, and this is in one of my son's bedrooms.

I agree with smatter, I set up a 55 cube with a Reefpack500 and while big it was OK, it was the smallest tank I would consider using one in.

You might want to consider the Reefpack 200. I'm using one in a 30 long and it does great. I keep sps in the tank with no problems.

I looked at the 200 but I think it doesn't have the osmolator function or the filter. Is that correct? How is the noise on that unit?

I had an Osmolator already so that was not a concern for me. I run carbon once in a while with a small powerhead with a media compartment.

There is a little bit of noise but it isn't as noisy as my reefpack 500. Of course I'm running the 500 wide open so I hear more bubbling noise. I really like the 200, you just have to buy a seperate ato unit if that is a feature you are wanting.

Tough call. If you were going for SPS I would get the 9005 and set up basically like smatter. For a mixed reef or softies I would get the nano reefpack.

Sorry, I must have missed this one. I have not been around in a while. These pics should help you. I am going to also say in a 30 cube, the 500 would be too much. I would go with a 9010 for sole filtration, with 2 powerheads.
Here is a few pics of an my old 37 with a 500 installed. It was a good fit imho, but in a 30, it may be too much.

I have since move everything into a 75, and everything is thriving. all corals in the picture have increased in size 4-5 times in one year. The small hammer is now a 30-40 head beast, as well as the frogspawn, and pretty much all of the corals in the tank. I pretty much have the simplistic approach that Tunze affords to thank for it. Thanks Tunze !!!
My current 75 BB "Berlin style" set-up is a Reefpack 500 running a 9010, Tunze Kalk reactor with osmolator. 3 powerheads on a wave timer. The filtration side of the 500 is only used for flow and a place to hide the osmolator sensors........no filter media at all. I love it. All corals and fish are thriving together, sps, lps, gsp, shrooms, etc. with no undesirable algea. Lighting is bouncing between halides and vho's (cant decide which I prefer).

Anyway.........hope the old pics help. You cant go wrong with Tunze.
Later...........Herbie
