I have pretty much settled on the reefpack as the skimmer for the 120 gallon I am beginning to set up. I am really sold on the hang on the inside design with surface skimming and built in top off system. However, I really would like a little more skimming capacity. I realize that 120 gallons is within the specifications for the 500, but this is going to be an octopus tank and if he inks, I want to be able to get it removed as soon as possible. If the reefpack cannot be upgraded/upsized, does anybody have any suggestions? I do not have a sump and would prefer not to drill the tank.

In that case it would be best to build your own filter from components. I would recommend getting a 9010 and a 3166 filter and an osmolator and then essentially you can build your own reefpack. To be honest though I think the Reefpack would be fine. I am no expert on cephalopods but I was not aware the ink was toxic, I thought it just obscured vision and startled the enemy. Also, you could run carbon in the reefpack to help with any inking event.
Oh, well that was pretty simple; I can just build one from scratch then. So I gather that all of these components are 100% compatible. That is, if I were to buy all of the components individually, would I end up with exactly the same thing as if I had purchased a reefpack or would it just be something similar? Also, in a reefpack type system, does the water flow from the filter into the skimmer, or are they just next to each other? I don't mean to sound like an idiot or anything, but I've never actually seen any Tunze equipment before and it is kind of hard to tell from the pictures.
No problem, no idiocy involved. They are just next to each other. The only difference between piecing a kit together is it costs more and they are not glued together but just sit next to each other. The only difference this makes is if you use the rail holders you need four instead of two.

Great, thank you very much. After pricing out the individual components, it seems that reefpack is quite a deal. If you could look into the upgraded model I would really appreciate it. In the mean time, could you point me to any vendors who carry Tunze? Oh by the way, I forgot to mention in my last response that the issue with the ink is not that it's toxic, it's just in a closed system it gunks everything up and compromises respiration. At least that is my understanding, I have no first hand experience with cephalopods yet.
