Well we are going to kick off our "Reefs in Schools Program" and we currently are planning to put in 4, 10 gallon systems, in 4 Schools in our area.
We are going to set these up as a basic all in one type sysetem which will have some internal filtration, and a hang on the back type filter.
We are keeping the initial cost on this as low as possible and starting this as a "pilot project" for this year. If this works well we may expand for the following school year, but would like to kick this off at the first of the school year.
We are in need of the following:
4 middle school ( or equivalent) science teachers that would like to have a set up installed in there school room, and at least one volunteer member that will help the school (with help from the club) Set up and maintain the aquarium.
4 New or near new in excellant shape, Standard 10 Gallon Aquariums.
Lighting suffecient for these 4 set ups, PC,s etc...
We will also accept any of the following items for this project.
- any size hang on the back filters in good running order!
- small pumps, maxjets, rios etc!!
-small heaters in new or excellant shape!
-some donations of Live Rock, "without a bunch of Aptasia etc!!!"
- Salt -did you change brands recently and have some of the "old stuff sitting around you can donate?
- Water jugs.
- Test kits, thermometers and any other "odds and ends that might be helpful.
Look throught your "junk" pile and see what you have your willing to donate to this worthwile cause. This is your opportunity to help educate our youth to our hobby and the science of the coral reefs.
Please let me know if you are willing to donate time, or articles and this is a chance to also do something for your middle school age childs school. Drop me a PM if you can help with this or you know of a worthy school teacher!! We do not want to hit up for sponsors as far as LFS or vendors at this time until we see how well this goes(but will accept if any realy want to donate)
