Ya I plan on doing something along those lines. I have read that at times it can serve the same purpose as a UV sterilizer. I think I'll run the reactor pump through the Ozone reactor and to my GAC and only kicking on the actual ozone generator when I need to. I think I'm going to set it with my apex were <450 its on and >450 its off.

First off thanks for visiting my build. As far as the kessils go, I love the functionality and design of the kessils. The light they put out is amazing, its nice clean vibrant light in almost all spectrums. I can not vouch for how coral does under them, I put in some SPS last night that I will be updating about later on. The thing I am not sure about is the actual Kelvin rating of light that the kessils put out. Given that it is an LED, the spectrum of light may appear bluer to the eye than what it really is to the coral. For instance 20k on a MH may appear the same color as a LED but are really 2 different measurements on the kelvin scale.

I have measured my tank parameters since day, its been 3 weeks and for the last 2 weeks I have got 0's across the board. Ca, Alk, Mg, PH, Has all been stable.... PH varying from 7.94-8.10

Ive been saying I was going to get pictures up today but was unable to do so. I havent even been able to see my tank with the lights on since sunday morning. Had 2 bearings on a vibration plate assembly go bad after the grease system failed at our plant. So since it broke down Monday morning 3am we have been working round the clock trying to get it up and running, Ive been in the plant 18 hours a day, sleeping up there one of the nights even. My GF has been the one putting most the corals in just acclimating, dipping, and setting them in the tank. Whenever I'm taking a break or in the office trailer I try get a post or 2 up. Hopefully this weekend I can find some time to take some quality pictures. I know tonight when I got home I turned the lights on for a minute and everything seems to be going well.

UPDATE

Changed up my salt mix last night to Aquavitiro Salinity. I used this salt in my old tanks and absolutely loved it. I have nothing against Red Sea but there parameters for CA, Alk, and MG were just not at my liking for SPS. I did a 20 gallon water change last night and will perform 20-30 gallon(Apprx. 10%) water changes every Sunday from here on out. I did not alter my salinity in the tank, it remains at 36.4-36.8.

I picked up a new camera and will be taking some pictures this evening and posting them. Things have finally ironed out at the plant and were back up and running so I should have some time on my hands, knock on wood.

Questions:
What do you guys feed you tank for SPS and how often?

What are you aiming for in your parameters?

Who else is using LED's and what have you noticed as far as growth, color, and coral reaction after first introducing them to the tank?

Achilles tang,
is on his way, QT has been setup for 4 days now with water from my DT. I will QT him for 3-4 weeks. The diet I plan on feeding consists of seveggies/brine/mysis shrimp. I have all 3 flavors/colors of sea veggies on hand and some other food just in case. The QT is a 29gallon tank with HOB filter, light, heater, small powerhead, and 4" PVC for hiding. I ordered him from Liveaquaria and he is 3 5/8", he will be arriving tomorrow morning. I have prepared myself for this fish for years, since my first tank I have always read on them and looked further to understand this fish. First one I have seen in the Diversden section since I started looking about a month ago. Any suggestions or help with this fish I mostly appreciated!

I've only ever kept a few tangs (and no Achilles) but the simplest food (and probably most nutritious) is Romaine lettuce. Hang a leaf on a clip and watch it disappear. Like any fresh produce I eat it gets soaked in a water/apple cider vinegar solution and washed thoroughly. Being Tangs eat a lot it saves on tank pollution by not just feeding all processed fish food.

Romaine is not natural for tangs. Many references recommend you blanch it first so it is easier for them to digest. You would do better from a nutrition standpoint to feed them marine algae; fresh is better, of course, but undoctored nori is good for them, too.

Hi Reefsi,

I have had the Achillis for 2.5 years. You need some luck with the copy, but to me he got a lot of green food and especially with garlic flakes from ocean nutrition.

It is a beautiful fish, but he also swims pressure along the front window up and down. But the orange dot is great, he represented the Netherlands Reef Aquariums: The dutch lion

Ya I hear they are quite hearty once you get them feeding and established. He should be arriving in the next hour and he will be put in QT for 3+ weeks. I plan on feeding him Mysis/Brine and sea veggies on the clip. I do have other foods on hand just in case. Ill look into the garlic flakes!

Ya I did I was going to purchase online but they looked healthy and been there for over a month and I said why not. I wish I QT'd them but that was due to lack of setup and laziness I guess. All fish will be QT'd and I plan on having 2 QT tanks at all times for monitoring species and treating species.

He arrived a little over 30 minutes ago. Floated the bag in the the QT let it get to temp, and slow adding water with a 1/4 tube to the bag. Salinity and temp are even with the bag and the tank. Another 30 minutes or so and ill release him into the QT. It appears to me he is a Trident tailed AT, this is very feint at the moment and hopefully I can get a picture of him after work. I can definitely see a third trident for his tail, but he isn't fully matured my guess is it will be more predominant the older he gets. Ill keep you posted!

This was last night after I put him in the tank. Hopefully I can snag a couple good pictures this evening once he calms down some.

He seemed way out of place last night. Anyways last night I did I put a towel over the tank and let him be until this morning about 8am I turned the light on, he didn't seem startled at all, seemed way more comfortable with his surroundings. I fed him a mix of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and spirulana, he ate a good amount, mostly brine shrimp. I also put a new piece of seaweed on a clip for him as well as a 2 gallon water change to suck up the stuff that had settled on the bottom. He didn't seem to care to much that my hand was in the tank when doing the water change. After that I left him alone and I wont be back until later this evening, I told my GF to feed him before she leaves for work around noon
