Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a DE 250w MH pendant, but not too sure which one is good. What do you guys think about the reefstar, reef optix 3, and pfo mini pendant? Which one would you recommend? I was also thinking of maybe getting one with actinic supplemental lighting. If anyone has suggestions on those too, it would be great. And lastly, what is a good 20k bulb? Thanks for the info guys.

I got great short term results in my sps from the new Ushio 20K. I'm sure they will do well if your sps are in the upper half of the tank. all of the 20K de bulbs on the market are very dim.

I would not recommend an electronic ballast for any DE bulb system with the exception of the Geismann. It is the only one that runs the bulb with a decent ouput. as for the pendant, the reflector is hammertone and while they output is even and uniform, the overall light output is approx 75% when compared to the PFO mini, SLS RO III & Maristar and Aquamedic Aquaspacelight (not to be confused with the other aquamedic lighting systems). Now those tests were performed using the Geismann reflector which is said to be the best of the hammertone reflectors. Now I am not saying that it is not sufficient, I am only saying that it is not the optimal DE lighting system.

I'm using 12k reeflux bulbs. The color is really nice and a little bit brighter than XM 20K. You can use without VHO suppliment antinic blue. I like the Icecap ballast with IceCap 250/400 Double-Ended HQI Metal Halide Pendant...the pendant size (Dimensions (L x W X H): 15" x 8.75" x 5") is a little bit bigger than ROIII pendant (11.0" x 9.0" x 4.0"). This pendant accepts both 250 Watt and 400 Watt HQI bulbs by simply adjusting the ceramic lamps sockets.

geisemann infinity...

geisemann infinity...

what do you think of the geisemann infinity? and do you know where they sell it?

The Giesemann is a well built lighting system. Possibly the best on the market. That being said that system still has the hammertone reflector. If someone bought me one I would replace my lighting right away. What I am saying is I value quality over performance to an extent. You will definitly get good results from this unit. I personally cant justify the price (while in my current salary range) so I will stick with the performer.

i dont think they sell that in the USA and if you really want to get it you probably will have get it through doug at Deltec USA and Deltec stuff does not run cheap....

you might also be able to get it through reef geek.....

that said i have 4 pfo mini pendants and i really like them.. lots of light and they are nice and compact....
