reflectors

I've met a few...they seem overly protective and can be a bit nasty to new people though :) I really like the temperment of Saints and Danes...big and scary looking, but baby's at heart :)

so when are you going to buy the new lights? what VHO's are you going to run?

ha yea i think you talked me into buying them- im trying to sell the 175s now- ill check cc and then put the new light on that. so whats the deal with the 250 vs 400? as far as my tank goes 36x36x21

and for the vhos- i have new clue yet- u tell me. just planned out a crazy hood so ill start that today hopefully

the big reason to go with the 250 over the 400 is heat. you don't need the 400 as they are really better at punching through to deeper tanks. Also, having a great reflector will put more light into the tank, and the 250 will do just fine. the 400 would just add unneeded heat to the tank, and draw more power than you need. Sure, a 400 would get the job done...but you just don't need to pay all of the extra's (extra $ for the bulbs and ballast, more fans/bigger chiller, and more every month in electricity.)

the VHO's: it really depends on the look you like. what coloration do you want to see?

with the 250 like you said ill get a higher PAR but what else? is the 400 going to be like a more bright almost over kill than the 250? just wondering the pros and cons so i can ordering!!! :)

And really watts isn't important. PAR is what matters. you can check the link I posted above and their is a place where you can compare 2 bulbs and it shows you the spectral plot as well as PPFD. You can easily get more PAR out of some 250w bulbs than some 400w.
