Wife is getting me a Refractometer;
Thoughts on digital

MA887 DIGITAL SEAWATER REFRACTOMETER - MILWAUKEE

vs

Salinity Refractometer for Seawater and Marine Fishkeeping Aquarium 0-100 Ppt with Automatic Temperature Compensation, By Aqueous Lab

Miluakee is the way to go. It is much easier to use but they usually have similar readings to the heavy duty reefractometers (like the veegee [that is what I use]).

Either way, make sure you understand proper use and calibration or else you might as well just dip you finger in and lick it to determine salinity. :lol:

I just dip my finger in there right now

@fabulousfavia, you recommend digital but use the veegee?

Digital (Milwaukee) is around $100.

Any one else?

I use the milwaukee. It is nice. As others have said make sure you know how to calibrate it. It isn't really hard, but the auto temp correction is a nice feature. You can do several different tests without needing to worry about temp for the most part.

I used to use digital but I got old and I picked up a veegee (works same but the Milwaukee is easier to use) veegee was about a $110 but I decided to keep it and not go back to digital.

What's your preference? Both styles are totally fine if used correctly. I would extend that to the cheap generic ATC refractometers, too. If you're used to using a refractometer then stick with that. If you just really want a digital one, the Milwaukee is definitely a great choice, and I'd prefer it over any of the other common electronic meters out there.

Digital. I will never go back. Stays calibrated forever and works so fast and is accurate. Itll be the last $100 you ever spend in that department.

+1
Milwaukee

One of the best "extras" I bought for my tank. While it is nice, I would consider it a luxury item only because of the price tag. A 20$ refractometer will work just as well.
