Refractometer Question

Since I started a Salt Water Tank, I had been using the Deep Six Hydrometer from Coralife. I just purchased a Shenzhen Refractometer. I followed the directions with calibration. My tank salinity is 1.027 on the meter. I tested with the Deep Six, and the scale reads 1.023. Is the Deep Six that far off or am I splitting hairs, or what? Any feedback would be great on this. I have checked the calibration 3 times and tested with both units, having the same results each time. This is confusing to me.

Are you calibrating with 53ms solution or ro/di water? Scales tend to vary more the further away, from the point of calibration you are. A little off at 0 can be a large difference at 1.026.53ms is mad for calbrating salinity monitors and is a 1.0264 standard.

Yes a swing arm hydrometer can be off that far.

When you raise our salinity try to do so slowly, say .001 per day.

Swings arms can easily be off a lot farther than that. Listen to the refractometer, it knows whats its talking about :D
