refractometer reading

ok question is the level on the refractometer is it like just at the blue when it stops? or is it the different line of color kind of in between the blue and white kinda grayish. now another question if my salinity level is just over 1.009 will the ick still live? and if so should i be shooting closer to 1.008? and at which salinity level will my fish be uncomfortable? like if the salinity is 1.008 will the fish have any problems compared to 1.009?

Read the salinity rather than the Specific Gravity. The correct salinity (not SG) is 16ppt or less. I prefer 14ppt so there is a little margin for error. I would not expect the fish to have a problem as long as you don't go below 12ppt. However, it is not usually necessary to go below 14ppt. Check the pH daily and add a buffer as needed.

ok terry only question is about exactly where to read the refactometer, because if i dont calibrate it right its worthless, and all im using to calibrate it is ro/ di water.
