Refrigum in the garage?

Does anyone have there refrigium pumped into the garage. I do not think I want to do this but I was wondering what it takes. I imagine a big pump to push the water back to the tank and a big chiller to get the heat out of the water. The garage does get hot.

But it would give me the space I want to have a bigger refrigium.

Someone had a tank of the month last year with sump in garage. Very successful but he did comment heat was a problem. His sump was just behind the display tank on the other side of that wall. Hope you don't store pesticdes and solvents nearby.

You can insulate the garage door and use a small window or side door a/c unit for much less than a chiller costs.

Using the garage option also allows for an easy inwall display tank. The tank sits in the temp controlled garage with the huge sump and is viewed as a framed wall unit from inside the house. Any takers now?

Nope there are stairs between my garage and my living room. I dont think that my wife will be all too pleased if I remove access to the bedrooms.

Hey then I could get that fireman's pole that I have wanted since I am 8.

Then your wife could learn to pole dance. :D It's a win-win situation.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

davester?

How did you overcome heat issues? What about contaniniments? What about cutting a big hole in the fire wall that is code for a garage?

Hey Dave,

your setup looks just like mine. Will post some pics later.

I run a chiller in my system. Humidity hovers around 60-80, sometimes it rains in there :-). Needless to say all my stuff in there gets rusted out pretty quick. I plans on installing a greenhouse fan pretty soon to get rid of some of the heat and humidity in there. Otherwise, I love the simplicity of keeping everything in the garage (lots of space, no noise, and I get to hide from the kids in there for awhile).

Regarding the firewall. Well, it is a 210 gallons of water firewall.

yes, i am breaking code by cutting into the firewall. I am currently on the fence about possibly providing AC in the room which would make the point moot.

yes, i have heat issues that are mitigated by a 1hp chiller and 2 large fans. I also prop open the garage door for ventilation which is a great boost for my ph.

going forward, i hear alot of people insulate their garage door, which i am looking into.

maintenance is a breeze. i can make a hell of a mess and just hose out the garage afterwards.

the best part is i have tons of SPACE to work in.

good luck and dont hesitate to ask if you have questions/issues.
