Refugium animal suggestions

I saw a thread recently in this forum that did not get much response but I thought was a great topic. What animals can be housed in a refugium that would continously spawn so as to add continous food to the main tank? I currently have a 150 gal DSB rubber maid refug on a 300 reef. 2 years ago I bought a detrivore pack from Inland Aquatics and it was incredible. The animals have survived and multiplied to literally thousands. I have micro brittle stars, mysid and gammarus shrimp, bristle worms, various pods and lots of cheato.

What about larger shrimps such as peppermint, cleaner shrimp, scarlett hermits, and various snails ie: turbos, conchs? I know the cleaner shrimp will spawn alot but what about the rest? Do you think they will pray on my established animals?

I think with more bigger critters will add more bio-losd to your system. But pods and the other critters you listed are great too.

one good point thoug is to feed live phyto to your system to feed the copepods in your fuge.

One I would look at would be tropical abalone - haliotis asinina

They are broadcast spawners that can be conditioned to spawn based on temperature. There is information on this in aquaculture articles about abalone.

These animals would also be good algal grazers in the main display providing there is enough food source for them... they are quick growers.

Cheers,
Doug
