Refugium Build

Whoops - guntercb I was thinking about the skimmer and not the feed to the refuge - here is a pic of my plumbing:

Thanks everyone for helping so far, but of course I still have questions.

When putting connectors together does it matter if they are butted up against each other? I just want to make sure I do the plumbing correctly. I have a coupler at the top, then a ball valve and after that a Tee. One of the outlets of the tee I have another ball valve to control water going into the refuge. I was going to put regular PVC between the pieces, butting the ends together and then from the tee use the SPAFlex. Is that ok to do? Doing it this way I'd have more room above the refuge/sump area.

It's definitely OK to butt fittings together with pcv connecting them.
My skimmer draws from and returns to the input area.

Hi mflamb, thanks for the info about the connections. I was going to use regular PVC between them and keep that area relativity stiff. I might have to use hanger to keep the SPAFlex where it needs to be - shouldn't be a problem doing that.

That's good to know about the skimmer. I don't think my input area is going to be large enough to accommodate the pump and the bubble reducer that Coralife has attached to the output of the skimmer. I want my output and refuge as large as I can possible make them so I'd like to keep it the size I have now. What I might do is take the reducer off and see if I get bubbles and go from there.

Hello everyone. I'm going to need some help with my refuge/sump (refugium and sump) build so I thought I would reach out here locally....

My Input area (water coming from tank) will be for mechanical filtration. I'll be using a 1 micron sock that is I think about 12” long and 6”+ across. My return area ...

MY QUESTION:

You're using a 1 micron sock? most suggestions I've heard here at RC have been for 100 micron socks. How's it been working out with that?

I'm about to buy replacement filter bags and i'm looking up what is the suggested micron density for the fabric.

Good question. I think 1 micron might be a bit small, and will require lots of attention.
Consider 25 micron.

This has been awhile in the works. Yes it is a 100 micron filter. When I've purchased them in the pass I really didn't pay that much attention to the miron size (I really should have known). I get all the filter socks here locally for FAOIS. When I first started I did use the 1 micron - didn't know any better.

Checkinhawk built my sump and it looks and is working awesome. Here it is installed.
