Refugium mud won't settle?

So I used refugium mud as the substrate in a tank and as soon as I turned on the very small return it put a layer of dust over everything in every connected tank and the water won't clear. I had to disconnect the refugium and siphon out all the dust from the other tanks and do a large water change. Can someone with experience with this stuff tell me what to do?

I think people often cover the mud with sand to keep this from happening.

Yeah.., this stuff is going to take some time to clear up

I know it will take time buts it's still looks like someone took a dooky in my tank haha. Hasn't even lightened up the littlest bit and I can see a 1/8 inch layer of silt over everything in my display as well which I can't see more then an inch through. It's very frustrating and its a good thing I don't have fish or corals in it yet or I have a feeling they would be dead.

It doesn't hurt anything IME but it does look terrible. I'd run a sock until the cloud passes.
