refugium product advice

I also have a 90 gallon with a 20 g sump and I thought about buying something like that as well. I ended up remodeling my sump to add a 7 x 10.5 x 9 fuge section with an acrlyic sock holder. I can still fit my reef octopus classic 150 in chamber 2 and my return in the last chamber.

That said this is 10 x 5 x 5 so it should grow just fine but I'm not sure either would be enough to make a huge difference.

Too small to really be useful IMO
Your tank likely needs something 4x that size to be noticeable.

Once again, mcgyvr has taken the words right outa my head!

Either revamp your sump to allow for a refugium of useful size or set up a stand alone display refugium fed from your sump alongside your current DT.

When I needed to do something to reduce Nitrates in my 150DT that was home to a 4' Undulated Moray, I added a 120g tank above the sump in my fish room. I spent at least as much time staring into it as I did any of my other tanks. I found the variety of life in there to be fascinating. And FWIW - within about 2 months, Nitrates went from off the charts untestable to barely detectable thanks tio the 6"+ DSB and a large quantity of LR in on a eggcrate shelf suspended above the sand.

thank you for this post

Thanks everyone for your input.. I have to agree, its not enouigh.. Luckily my nitrates and phosphates are low anyway since dosing nopox.. I will just have to monitor the dosage

I bought them to prep for a move, I figured I'd load them up for a few months before I moved and then not have any issues with a cycle. They worked great but the move took longer than I hoped, we had to be out of one house on the 31st but the new house didn't have floors till the 16th so I had some losses but I think the blocks helped save at least the fish. Now I use that area as a fuge and those are in the return section and skimmer section.

i am no expert but i do know how to read so with that being said experts have written that in order for a fuge to work even little bit it needs to be at minimum 10% of you tank volume... the bigger fuge is less other equipment you will need... i already took my Skimmer of bc i cant have No3 and my corals ware suffering and now months later i am at 7-8 No3... i don't use GFO and Po4 is 0.13 rock steady with heavy feedings 3-4x per day with 15 so so size fish

Going out on a limb, I'm giving Shelby the benefit of the doubt that it reads way worse than it was meant. Probably would have been better written as "I am no expert, but based on my research". From another post of theirs, they do have a pretty dense growth in the fuge http://reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25518127&postcount=6
