Refugium qeustions....

How much Chaetomorpha should i put in a 20 gal ref ? and what site would be good to get it from? one last question.. as i am new to this... does a refuge need to cycle?

It doesnt matter how much you put in. Just get a handful or so, and with proper light, it will grow fast. The goal is to take chaeto OUT of the fuge.

Is there a reef club near you? Thats the best way to get it.

I would let the Chaetomorpha build up until it is quite packed, then trim out a third to half of it. Rememer, the more you have, the more is there sucking up nutrients, at least to the point where it is shading itself out and part is not growing well.

does a refugium have to "cycle" like your setting up a new tank?

Depends on what you put in it. If it is just cycled live rock, or just macroalgae, and it is attached to a cycled aqaurium, it won't cycle, no. If you add a lot of uncured live rock, yes it will.

FWIW, most macroalgae like ammonia, so do not wait to add it.
