refugium set up

i don't really have a good thing to attach the fuge light on, but i have one of those desktop lamps where you attach bulbs too. the best i can do is one of the led bulbs mentioned in the link. that i already have. i have a skimmer that was used for the tank by the previous owner, and i fixed my current one and a musing this one. i can use the other one if i had a pump. am thinking pureish/clean water from skimmer going into tank, and then a pump going from there to tank using a syphon hose. still need to find the hose, but i might be able to get the pump.

yea. another idea could be just pickup a cheap 29 gal fish tank on craisglist somewhere that holds water perfect. go to home depot and cut a few sheets of acrylic and just do a DIY sump that incorperates a fuge in the sump. You really shouldn't be in more than 75 or so dollars into it... probably easier than having a sump and fuge seperately. Then just sell your sump and gain money back

just use a simple in-tank refugium for the time being until you can afford better overall equipment for your set up. one of those shower/bathroom suction cup containers works well. good luck. google in-tank refugium various retailers have them and they work. the only thing is that i would not add much sand if any depending on what kind of in tank one you get.

you dont have any room on the side or back of the glass to suction cup a small container? i find that hard to believe but ok.

Yeah. Most of the walls are covered with lr. I have about 3-4 times what is required. Looks good for fowlr, not as much for a reef setup. Still like it hough.

why would you lose your overflow if you used a sump w/ fuge and lose filtration? I'm saying sell your sump after you move everything over to a DIy sump/fuge

What I mean is that my overflow came for that size sump, and The sump has a hole in the side that has a hose that connects to a skimmer. I really wish I had he supplies. It would be cool and sounds kind of fun making my own refugium/sump to the way I like it. If i ha the supples(drills, sheets, money) I would definitely do it. What I'm thinking I'll do is set up that refugium, and all through the winter I do research, stats, posts, etc. About the sump and things like that. Since winter I won't be buying fish in the winter due to the fact that they may not make he drive back home in cold, I can save up for that. Might even help me on the road to architecture. I hope.

ya idk... i feel like it would be more complicated to do that. If your plumbing is all the same, i don't see why a new return pump would be needed.

Is your protein skimmer a external one?
