refugium/sump questions

I've got an Amiricle pro-line 1000 filter. Do you guys put a clean up crew in the actual filter? I don't know if I have the filter set up right, its seems like there's a lot of "stuff" floating around in there. My nitrates and nitrites were ok last time I tested my water, so I don't think it's harming my tank that much, but I bought the filter used. I've got the bioballs in the middle section, and a "built in" skimmer that does work. If I can figure out how to post pictures on here, I'll take a picture of my set up.

not sure about cuc in the filter as im not familiar with it zues, as for the bio balls if running a reef best to get rid of them, if fish only probably not so urgent, most guys on here would say bio balls are nitrate factories, it takes a while to start causing nitrate but eventually will

Dump the bio balls and replace with some chaeto/caulerpa (sp?) put a few peices of LR rubble in there and your good. not sure how good this "built in" skimmer is without knowing what it is. a good skimmer will be the best investement you can ever make.

I wouldnt but any snails or crabs in the sump unless you had a refugium, and even then it's quesitonable. I agree with the others, ditch the bioballs.

Someone mentioned using "live rock rubble". Can I just put some normal live rock in there? That would be fine I'm sure......

dump the bio balls . .

Slowly. Just take a few out everyday until they are gone.
