Refugium with bio pellet reactor?

Do I need a Refugium with a bio pellet reactor? Most of the cheato turned brown after adding the reactor. Even if there is a minor benefit, I don't mind keeping it. I don't have anything except a bed of miracle mud currently.

If it were me I would consider cutting back on the BP to find a happy medium. Some chaeto is gonna help with pods and things like that. I run both, but I'm a higher bioload and heavy feeder. The other option would be yes take it out cause if its brown and receeding then the die off will be extra biological waste in the tank.

no you dont need a refugium to dose carbon or use biopellets... they are not mutually exclusive or inclusive.

I think if you use one you shouldn't use the other.

It may be counter productive to use both simultaneously, since they would be competing for the same nutrients. I'd say, since you're Chaeto isn't doing well you will have to make a choice between the two. I started with BP's a while ago, and removed the chaeto, and turned off the fuge lights.
