High im starting a 65gal reef tank my sump has two socks in a compartment
that is 8x8x24 should I remove the socks and use as a refugium or shoud I
use the socks and use a refugim that hangs on the back of the tank like a
CPR thank you

Depends on what you want the fuge for. If you want the fuge to reduce nutrients then you will want a larger compartment than what a hang on will provide. If you just want a place for pods to reproduce then a hang on will be fine.

Socks are completely optional. Being able to put them on from time to time is nice but it's not a must have.

If you are going to run socks it is important that you change them out every 3-4 days, or they serve little purpose. If you don't want to maintain them at that level, you would be better off using the space as a refugium.
