I am still getting my new tank set up. Live rock or mud in the refugium? For now there is nothing in that compartment . Can someone also tell me what type of lights are needed for this?
I personally put a lot of Live rock in the refuge. It allows me to use less in the main tank. Also gives the pods lots of places to hide and breed. As far as mud goes, you can use just regular araginite sand and seed it with live sand. I have used some mud in the past. You can mix it with the LS.
Tiffany, just put rock in there as per the reasons listed above and as bill said just about any ole light will do for the sump, have it on at night when the tank lights are out. Hope you get some sleep!
The best would be about 3" - 8" max but not to exceed 8" The max amount would give you some RDSB benefits but that's another story! Your rock also should either have water flowing over it or submerged completly both work OK.
