Regal Angel Fish Help

Well, I stopped into a chain store here in the Pittsburgh area (Burtons Total Pet)and they had a Regal Angel from the Indian ocean.

What is the difference between the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea?

I have been wanting this fish for my reef tank(yes I know it might go after my coral but it is a baby and hopefully train it on frozen food) and I would love to rescue it from this chain store before someone buys it that has know idea how difficult this fish could be.

Has been at the store for a week and I am waiting to see if it starts to it before even buying it.

red sea are yellow belly and hardier, better catching and handleing methods ect than indo gery/blue belly.

that being said i have a grey belly in my semi reef (2 colt corals make up my reef) and was eating at the lfs when i bought him. the trick is getting them to eat and providing the right nutrician for them to thrive and neither varrity does well introduced into a tank with more agressive fish. if your gonna have it in the tank with more agressive species of fish intro the regal angel 1st.

it is reported that the regal angel fairs better in a reef compared to a fowlr or fo tank

and i would treat for flukes, there is almost a 100% chance it will have flukes. it seems to me latelyy a lot of angels and butterflys are infested with flukes or its just the lfs i visit and the reports on RC that make it seem that way

also pull up a comfy chair, get rid of the spouse and kids and turn off the TV set and read this short(LONG,LONG,LONG) informative thread

Thanks for the info, just stopped today and it does have a bluis grey belly. Still not eating. Will wait and see what happens. I found one on Reef Hot Spot but they want $200 for a Red Sea and no guarantee.

Atleast with this one, it is at the pet store and only $100 and I can wait and see if it eats before I buy.

AFAIK there is no way to visually ID a Red Sea regal from any other yellow belly regal. And considering the status of true Red Sea fish availablility in general, I doubt any yellow belly regal one finds currently is Red Sea.
