Regal Angel Primer

Was there a general consensus with regards to the ideal place to purchase from with the greater chance of success? I was considering ordering a tang today from Live Aquaria and noticed they had a couple but the price seemed higher and they had three to choose from. Indian Ocean Orange, Indo and South Pacific, and Read Sea. I didn't see any of the Juvi medium maldives listed. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...

Edit: Hmm...the purchase / add to car box shows Maldives now for me. Maybe a browser error before. $230 seem about right? For some reason I was thinking 180'ish.

$230 is their normal price on LA. They have sales pretty often that range from $140-$180. Try using the coupon code listed above. Not sure if that one is good for livestock though.

$60 for a yellow belly regal is an awesome price, and about half of what quality marine charges wholesale

Based on past experience, the regal you start with has a lot to do with your probability of success. The recent one I acquired from LA (not DD) is a juvi medium and came in around 2 inches. I've tried the fish a couple of times before with older yellow bellies (4-5 inches) without success. Couldnt get them eating or comfortable enough to leave a hiding spot.

I've been posting for the last few weeks on the LA baby regal I've recently added if you want to follow my experience with this one.

Based on experience the price is irrelevant. I've paid a lot more for ones that failed in the past. A solid healthy captive adaptable one is the key. Also don't trust any vendor that says they are eating (live or prepared foods) prior to being shipped to you.

Not yellow belly, it's an indo grey belly. I like them better.

They sorta looks the same as Juvi but the blue of the Pacific Regal continue to develops and ended up with bluer darker fish than the IO or Red Sea Regal.
I like them too. After keeping them both and seeing them side by side, they are both exceptionally beautiful fish. Just not the same.

Great looking fish. Mind if I ask what that other fish is called in the background?

Centropyge interrupta

Thanks. You know that age old saying if you have to ask you probably can't afford it... I've personally not seen that fish before, very pretty. Some times you are just better off not knowing :D

Thanks for the ID though. Learned something new today which is always a good thing.

The price of the medium juvi Regals at LA. was too hard to resist. Today in a moment of weakness I placed an order. Fingers crossed that it arrives healthy and a little bigger then the current 3.5 inch Regal in my tank now. My hope is that if it is bigger it will help keep aggression from the established Regal Angel to a minimum.

It will definitely be smaller that 3 1/2 inches. They come in at around 2" - 2 1/2"

Not to derail the thread, but I have my pair of interrupta almost a year now. Here they are doing their mating dance which happens every evening when the actinic comes on.

Nick, while we're off the rails, I wanted to first of all commend you on your beautiful aquarium, fish, and photography skills!

If you don't mind, regarding the C. interrupta, I'm wondering at what temperature you maintain your system and if you know where they were collected?

Thanks!

These came from Pacific Island Aquatics. Colby told me they’re from Japan. My tank temperature is 76. In the summer time, it may go up to 78. Hardy fish.
