So I broke down and got a Regal. I was holding out for just the right Red Sea variety due to their better track record. However, this one from the Marshal Islands came a long. Long story short I won him on ebay, my bid was low and I didn't think I would win but I did.
He came in with a torn caudal fin but seems to be doing well now. Against better judgement, I did place him straight in the display after a lengthy acclimation. (so far so good) The regal has been in the tank a week now. I was told he was eating pellets but so far just clam for me. I'm hoping that he'll start eating pellets now that my sailfin has decided there is room for the both of them.
Same here. (broke down and purchased a Pacific angel) Purchased one at a LFS in the Philly area that has a good reputation. They had just received it the day before. I figured the fish had enough stress already, so I purchased it on the spot. Normally, I would have waited, and let it sit in the tank at the store to see how it's doing, but my tank is established and very peaceable. So, I knew it would have less stress at my home than at the store. The fact that the other fishes it was housed with backed away from it made me think that it may not be as shy as many.
Acclimated it, but did not quarantine. (again, my thought was that the less stress on the fish and the sooner I can put it in the tank where it is going to live the better) When introducing, it was when there were only moonlights on, not the bright HQI/T5 lighting. Again, to reduce intitial stress. I put some mysis shrimp in, and the fish picked a bit which was a great sign. The Regal has been in the tank for nearly two weeks now and has definitely made itself at home. I feed frozen mysis, and it picks from the cube, as well as some pygmy angel food and has started eating freeze-dried seaweed I place in the tank.
The only fish that harassed it at all was a Fisher's angel that I've had for quite some time. This went on for a day or so, but nothing serious. At this point, the Regal swims all over the tank and picks at the live rock. It isn't at all shy and comes out if it sees me for food.
Please note that I have several caves that I built into the live rock so it could hide if it felt threatened at all. It has many places to hide and my rock work purposely has many areas a medium fish could settle in. The fact that it ate right away, I believe, was the biggest hurdle. (the fish is 3.5" long) When I received it, the caudal fin was chewed up a bit, but not as bad as the one you have szwab. The fin is healing up nicely. Although I'm pleased that it's eating and socialization with the other occupants of the tank. Furthermore, I've done as much research as I could (including reading this long thread, as well as the usual suspects on the internet) All this being said, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic.
