Regal Angel Primer

Thanks everyone. She started out in my 240. THat tank was full of SPS, LPS, Softies, and clams. She has never nipped at a single coral. When I took the big tank down, I could not get rid of her. I had to sell my amazing 6" Majestic angel, but I kept my little girl. She is now in the 55 gallon (elos) and is doing amazingly well. In the 240 she hid alot. In this smaller tank, she has really opened up.

She still does not touch corals, and will not even eat zoanthus (and I have tried many different types).

She has been in the Elos for7 months, and IMO fits the tank very well. IME this is the best reef angel out there. Mine is the least agrressive fish in the tank, and has so much personality. :)

I think that these fish get a bad rep. due to poor collection, mis-led buyers, and people who buy this fish and are not willing to spend the time needed to succeed with these fish.

any of you having problems with nipping at corals? I want one but dont want to have my lps nipped to death...

It's 50/50 with any Angel, but it seems that Regal's are one of the more reefsafe out there. It also seems that if it does nip at corals, it will most likely nip at softies and LPS before it nips at SPS and hard corals.

After 5yrs of reading every thread/article that I could find on these guys, I finally ordered my Red Sea Regal from reefhotspot dot com. They have two more if anyone is interested.

Joined the group and got a regal two weeks ago from the LFS. She was eating krill at the store is not eating mysis, krill, angel formula and some flakes. Very shy at first but out much more now. Does have one spot on each fin (new since purchase), hopefully it is nothing. I acclimated for 3.5 hours and put her right into the display.

Well I have a 1 1/2 and a 2 1/2" regals coming to me on monday. I have a qt setup for them I want to make sure they are eating what I feed my tank and have no parasites on or in them. Can not wait :)

pito...your i did, but canceled my order due to an outbreak of ich...added too much too fast and my fish paid dearly...since then, about 6 months or so ago, I have added nothing until a regal and achilles tang about 2 weeks ago...both are doing well and eating like champs

I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow to get clams and mussels in anticipation of Tuesdays delivery. Are there any types of clams that I should avoid? How do you store them? Do you leave them in the tank all day? Any other tips on feeding clams?

Pito,
Any raw clams or mussels on the half shell should be fine.. The fish may be timid for a few days, so don't get discouraged..

This is what I used to do:
Get 50 clams, and shuck them open.. Then spread them across a pan, and freeze them... Once frozen, I would take them off the sheet and bag them up... When thawing out, I would rinse with water and clean them, then drop to bottom of tank for regal... As far as brand, I would just go to the supermarket, and see what was on sale... Sometimes they would have bags of 50.... Was never more than 12-15 bucks.... My Regal took a solid 2 months before eating other foods... I have had him for over a year now... He eats everything I drop down... Mysid, krill, pellets... Ect....

Oh yeah... They would get picked so clean.... Would just retrieve a few once a week... Sometimes I would have to drop 2 because some of the other fish would be pigs about it, and hog..

I store mine frozen in the shell. I use a screw driver to open the shell part way. Hang it in the tank with fishing line. Also use scallops cut up in small pieces. For mine it seemed like it needed to get used to eating from the water column.

There was a prob with shipping and they couldn't get it out to me on wed as planned. So, they promised me it would be here Fri, but I got an email last night saying that they were out of stock and I was placed on back order. I'll be calling this after noon to figure out *** is going on.

Sadly,
My regal died in my tank move this Monday... Lost 10 fish... Regal and Lineatus were 2 that died that are really upsetting me... Anyhow, I have a new regal sitting in a drip right now.... Doesn't look to have the colors of my last one, but he is a yellow belly......
