Regal Angel Primer

Regal is still doing great, almost to good to be true. He is actively picking at the rocks and eating seaweed flakes. I fed him another clam today and he ate that too. He is staying out front and center now. My purple tang doesn't seem to care for him but he does not appear to be paying the purple much attention when he tries to show off to him.

Keep an eye out for disappearing softies :)

I noticed my regals dont like the large polyped palys and zoa's. The little ones are like candy though.
My new one went in today, The PT gave him hell for a few minutes and he didnt back down. Now the scribbled set him in place though. LOL But the scribbled is pretty mild. My old emp would have torn him a new one. I want one more angel, and i dont know which yet. It will be a smaller species though.
The regal has completly healed and had his secound round of prazi finished. He loves mysis and esp gutloaded brine.

My Regal ate my Toadstool Mushroom Coral from the top center and worked its way down until there was nothing left and this did not take long. What a healthy eater! I tried a small zoan rock for $35 and it ate them like candy so I stick with the Palythoa which are toxic and it does not touch them. I also have five Lobed brains, six gonioporas, a Hammer, Torch, and Elegance which it does not pay attention to so far, along with two Red Rose Bubble Tips.:artist:

Thats cool you can keep brains, My scribbled and meredithi love to eat brains esp wellso's and the like.

As long as mine leaves my SPS alone I'll be happy. :)

The only large angel that bothered my sps was my old emp. He would munch on new growth at the tips of the sps.
The dwarfs seem to like to pick at the polyps of my sps, But they are all small and dont do too much damage. Once they get bigger i bet they will start on larger foods and leave the sps alone. They do like the diatoms on the glass when its there.

I fed my Regal another huge clam today. It's funny watching her defend the clam from the Coral Beauty.

My scribbled protects the clam till most of the meat is gone. Thats ok the smaller angels seem to preffer the scraps and they atleast eat other stuff.
I go thru 4, 2-3 inch live clams a day.

My regak is eating pretty well and is not putting on weight. It is 3 and 1/2 months old. Does anyone else have this problem? He eats PE mysis and Instant Ocean Marine gel. He eats enough that I would expect him to be gaining weight.

Could be a internal paracite. I would try soaking the mysis in selcon and feeding that. To gain weight they need 3-4 good feeding a day and for him to fill up. Maybe try some fresh clams on the shell.
The marineland gel is not very beneficial. Mostly fillers.

I soak my food in Selcon and Kent Marine-C(vitamin C to hopefully prevent and cure LLHE). I think my entire tank of anemones, corals, and fish seem to benefit from my recently started daily dosing of Vitamin C. I will continue to soak food in Selcon and Kent Marine-C as well as dosing the entire tank daily with Kent Marine-C.

My Regal's very beginning of LLHE showing in this picture has started to fade and the white below the eyes has started to turn gray like the belly of my Indo-Pacific Regal. He continues to be a very active swimmer and eater of just about everything offered and has become one of the elder statesfish of my tank with two tangs over two years and Mr. Regal Angel at 1 1/2 years and a Blue Girdled Angel at 1 year.

Edit:
Now looking at the pictures it seems to be losing yellow under the pectoral fin on the bottom picture. Not sure what's going on here.

I thought I read somewhere (or heard) all regals start out with yellow bellies and depending on the variety either keep or lose them.

Don't quote me on this though :)

It's quite possible but this fading yellow appears dramatic from the pictures dated 1-14 and 2-17. The Regal is about 4.5" and eating pretty much everything now with a preference of pellets when I'm feeding both.

I have one of the so called yellowbellies not from the red sea. It has a prodominant blue belly with a lighter undertone. I wouldnt call it grey, But not a true yellow either. Its about 6 inches TL.
