Hi All,
I have just picked up a Regal Angel. It has an orange chest , I have keept many Angels in the past but not this type. The fish is in my qt I did try to feed mysid after six hours in the tank and he did not touch it. The fish is four inches long , does any one else know what to offer that may get the fish to start to eat ? He is nice and healthy looking at the time. Thanks , Pete

Look in the primer series on them. But you can start off with live clams from a seafood market if he wont take mysis. eventually you can get them to switch to pellet and then almost anything.

I was able to start mine on blood wooms first then switched to mysis and pellets. It took about two weeks. They are slow feeders so if you have any aggresive eating fishes in the display tank, it is going to be tough for it to compete for food. You might need to feed more than what you normally are accustomed to.

Thanks every one !
bskiba what is the primer series ?
I only like frozen food but I will try some fresh clams today. I have a male Blonde naso just started to show tail streamers , Ausie tusk still has juvi black spots , Golden sail fin tang under a year old, Four blue yellow tail Damsles. I used the p mysid . I had a fowlr for five years and had an emperor, Majestic, Blue face, Blue ring all were juvi when I got them. They all got alond well I broke down my tank to change the floor and sold them all. I want to keep a mixed reef so from what I see the only real head turner I can keep is the Regal. And yes I know the tusk does not fit in a reef with crabs snails but I am going to try as this guy is still small and I was able to get him to eat pellets in a week he eats every thing I feed. I hope I can get the Regal to do the same. The Regal to me is kind of like the Majestic I had in the way he acts . Wish me luck , do you guys know if the Regal take any Nori?

Phi36,

Where did you get yor regal ? I'm just beginning the search for one as the first fish other than 2 Anthius in my 265 gal reef.

Hey skip, I will tell you if I can get him to eat. I am thinking of putting him in my main display with hopes he will eat when he sees the other fish eat or just pick at the algea on the rock. I put some clam in and he still looks but wont touch he wont even pick at the nori. I guess I will try oyster on Sunday

I would suggest Live Aquarias...Divers Den.

They don't show up very often but less than a dozen times a year at a high price....
They are acclimated well and are eating. Unfortunately, a high percentage of Regals never make it in captivity due to starvation...they simply will not eat.
Obtaining one that is eating is the best first step with these gorgeous fish.

Thanks Regal.... I've been on DD's email list for quite awhile and not a notice yet. I'm gong to continue to add no fish to my tank until one becomes available. I do see them in a couple of NY stores, but would never buy from them. :-(

I opened a fresh clam and it looks as if he did not touch it . I also put in a sheet of nori and it looks as if he went for it but I can not tell how much yet. I guess thats a start. The on line store I got him from said he did eat mysid before they sell them.

Assume you have tried garlic soaked mycid. I read in some threads that raw scallop has worked.. It may take 3-5 days for him to start nibbling.

Hang in there!

Still holding out on the name of the vender.

It's not unusual for a regal angel to stop eating when you move them....
keep trying the scallops and clams, you have to get some meaty food in him.
He won't survive from Nori alone...

well still no luck. picks at nori only. used two types mysis, squid, clam, oyster, black worms, brine, artic pods, flakes, pellets, Its a week today. Thinking of moving him to main disply

any else had one that was real hard to get to eat ? A week and two days still wont eat . I may go pick up a cheap frag zoo or sponge he will not make it to the end of the week

Phk36 ... Hang in there. I've been reading a lot of posts and threads and it seems some go as long as 5-6 weeks eating virtually nothing and then start. Keep throwing everything at it. Your earlier thoughts about moving him to you DT might be worth a try. Hope I don't get flamed for saying that, but their is some sentiment around putting them directly in the DT to reduce their stress. Best of luck and keep in touch.
