Regal what to feed

Phk36 ... Hang in there. I've been reading a lot of posts and threads and it seems some go as long as 5-6 weeks eating virtually nothing and then start. Keep throwing everything at it. Your earlier thoughts about moving him to you DT might be worth a try. Hope I don't get flamed for saying that, but their is some sentiment around putting them directly in the DT to reduce their stress. Best of luck and keep in touch.

Try Ocean nutrition angel formula its the one and only thing my regal eats and ive had him over a year. Plus it has sponge in it which is their main diet in the wild.

each are very different IMO

Mine wouldnt eat for days until it ate Fauna marin ultra granules.

Unitil then it wouldnt touch anything like mysis brine or NLS pellets

Also, make sure its not ill or has gill flukes.

Best of luck

I had a juvy chrysurus once that I got from the marine center and it took him 3 weeks to start eating. I tried everything and you are not to believe this but he would only eat pellets!

Thanks guys ,I put a cleaner shrimp in with him and he goes to him alot. I do see some white spots that are big but it looks like lymp that kind of thing that goes away with good food and water. I am going to pull the shrimp today and start copper. I have had many problems with ich in the past and this does not look like that and also has not spread like ich does

PHK- What does your QT look like? Regals are tough in general, but are even worse in a sterile QT environment. They definitely benefit from a piece of live rock or two in the QT to stimulate appetite. Good luck with your Regal.

Jason,
My qt is a 29 gallon with some rock that was dry a pcv pipe . It has been up for a few months and has had seven fish qt in it. The rock has some algea on it . I did get the fish mail order with two other fish one was dead in the bag the other lived for a day , they were both damsles. The box was very warm I think this was a big factor. I had hope that with each passing day the fish would get a bit stronger as for the first few hours it did swim funny kind of on its side. I am going to try and get some sponge from my local fish store on Thurday.
Thanks, Pete

Have you tried specifically PE mysis with something like Selcon? Sometimes a certain food item might not initially work, thus needing to try it again and again.

Also bloodworms? I get the best feeding response with bloodworms.

If the fish hasnt ate in 2 weeks and if it doesnt look like ich, I probably wouldnt do copper yet. Copper doesnt have an immediate impact and it could possibly just suppress the fish's appetite even further.

Yes pe mysis selcon I did list what I have used above . I will offer mysis and all above with hopes he starts to eat Thank you any thing will help now

oh and she tasted my wellso just a little...now she only eats what I put in the tank,I hope it stayed that way!!! knock on wood lol..

Hi all, I lost the fish last Friday. He did make the 14 day mark but never ate and you can see from above i did offer lots of food. I guess it may be agood idea to go to the dt. The fish was in a 29 gallon qt. I sent an email to the vender with hopes he will replace the fish . The only thing I would try is putting the fish in my dt but I also fear the what it may bring with it. I want to thank every one for help and any ideas. Many local stores will not bring them in as many do not make it . Good luck to all the others who can keep them

Sorry for your loss. I have been keeping fish for 12 years, and the Regal is one of the toughest I have ever attempted. I have only ever had success on two occasions, the first was with a Red Sea 3" Sub-adult back in 2003; the second was a juvenile Indo in 2007. With both of them, I added them as one of the first fish in the tank, and I added them straight to a mature display. I have a contact with Quality Marine and apparently they have recently been bringing in larger specimens (4-5") from the Indian Ocean. Gorgeous fish, but at that size they are way too risky based on past experience.

Thanks, jnc
I agree my fish was four five inches and fat . I am going to add a picture .

Phk,

Real sorry to hear about the loss. I have talked to the folks you got the Regal from and asked them to locate a small one .. Not confident they can though. If I can find a healthy one, I'm gong to place it directly into my DT. Right now I only have a pair of Bartletts and a Percula Clown in my 265 gal.

Again, sorry for the loss .. Hang in there.

Thanks, Skip ,Its funny how people keep fish with no problem and some have a hard time. I really think the heat played a role in this fish not making it. He shipped with two clowns in smaller bags. The box was very hot when I opened it . When I pulled the bags out instant fog . I have central ac but run it at 75 so its not real cold but good for us. One clown was dead in the bag the other dead a day later but did eat a tiny bit. I have had many Angels in the past all from juvi even a Majestic and they were five when I had to break down my tank to replace the floor.
