Regional Club Frag Swap: Planning

Then we may need to consider appeasing them a lil more. Seeing how 1's from the north and 2's from the west, sending em to south sac/ Elk Grove and charging them 13$ per person compared to the typical 5$ is a hard sell.

I think a happy medium would be some where in the NW vicinity, like the Natomas area if indeed it needs to be in Sacramento, this would make it more accessable to our northern and western cousins. Especially being a major highway intersection of I5 and I80.

OK folks,

Karl has taken the initiative to make this happen. Now is not the time to start second guessing the work he has done. I did not see anyone else step up and say I'll take this on. I say we should support Karl, and stop this "if only" crap.

What would you like to pay Justin? Would $20 for the both of you be something you could stomach?

Gresham, your spottin me and missing the point buddy. Do you think that Karl's 14% attendance is because of me?? Im giving viable reasons that know one is willing to offer publically themselves apparently.

But to answer your question, no it's not something I care to stomach. Dont get me wrong, its a cheap date and alot less than I usually spend on a nice lunch or dinner with my significant other, but Im there to hang out with a bunch of reefgeeks and trade coral and dont want to pay 15-20 bucks to do it. Giving you 20$ to take my frags from me is not an ez thing for me to swallow, sorry Gresham.

Bring on the flames, I dare ya :smokin:

John, I support Karl and paid for the meals, but so far only 14% have put their money toward the swap. That tells me, we have to change the venue or this years swap will not happen.

I think the room at Roundtable is large enough to accomodate the swap, and the members of the swap can eat in the other rooms. I also, think it's large enough to accomodate groups from other areas too. It will have to be organized and the tables for the swap will have to be placed in strategic positions to get the best use of the space.

Anyway, I would like to see this happen, but won't add anymore suggestions if they are unwanted.

Liz

Justin's just disappointed that I couldn't get beer to be included with the meal;)

Anyway, I would like to avoid having us argue and flame eachother over this. I respect Justin's opinion, but don't entirely agree with it. You're not really paying $13 per to give your frags away. You're entitled to pick frags yourself, of course, and have a nice lunchtime meal with your cohorts:)

I am sorry if some of you don't find the Elk Grove location very appealing. I've been in the area for 3 years, and am not really familiar with what might be available to us.

I don't mind the suggestions, especially when the interest is from our locals. That's always promising. I just don't want you all to argue. A lot of people were sad to hear that our swap wasn't going to take place. I just want to make it happen for them.

Justin,

I was thinking of spotting every one, and lowerring the price to $10 across the board. Since your the one that posted about the price, I thought you'd be the best gauge of what others may be thinking.

Ahh the joys of internet chat and the bounty of misinterpretation it brings :D

I whole heartedly would like a swap to happen, and DO appreciate Karl for taking up the reins as Ive pointed out before, publically.

But, apparently there is something inhibiting everyone that wanted to join from joining. This is what I was trying to elaborate on. I understand that there are differences of opinions and I too can respect that. But the one thing that is different about this is not just location, but more importantly price. You derivatives from the bay area may have a hard time fathoming this, understandably considering where your coming from ;) But for someone who just got finnished coordinating with over 16-17 other local members, a mere dollar is and can be a a big deal, apparently. Trust me ;)

Im definately not here to argue with anyone, and dont want to. I just wanted to reiderate on what a good point Liz was making. For me personally, being between jobs at the moment, I dont have the money to front right now, I'll have a handfull of cash come time for the event, but that doenst help me nor the events reservation in the meantime.

I'm going to try and work with Gresham, and see if we can lower the cost for the meal. We may even have a sponsor for the event, which will no doubt, make it far more attractive:D

Gresham, that's very nice of you. :)

Karl, sponsors? woohoo! That's awesome!

Just trying to mearly gauge the magic number. I'm not well off, or rich, by any means. I live paycheck to paycheck. I just happen to work for a company that has the same values as I and can support stuff that I see fit.

BAR and MARS members are of the same blood, trust me. Broke Azz Reefers is what many call BAR members ;)

Please excuse my harshness.

I was once very involved with the local reptile club, and I know first hand that any event planning is a very thankless job. Karl I admire and respect you for stepping up on this one.

I will do my best to remain silent unless called upon.

Well, the RoundTable is booked till Thanksgiving weekend. I'll call around and try to find another cheap or free room.

here is my 2cents....

When I saw the price for the meal I was not shocked, Its an average price for a lunch/dinner. The think that did concern me was the people who can not afford it and that live out of town. I am working overtime now for all the money I can get, Because I also live check to check.

Yes, I did try and keep a frag swap to members and it bombed. But I could only do what I could do and my club house is not that big.

I say we need to all look at restraunts and halls that may kind to do it cheap or free.

Karl knows what totaly apperciate what he is doing. I know how tuff it is first hand.

And yes our fingers think too much and our brain takes a vacation one too many times while we are on the internet. :-)

If anyone spends over $20 for a coral then there should be no problem dropping $13 for coral and dinner. Even if you count the $20-30( in most cases) you could have made if you sold the frags your still walking away with a full belly and at least 2-3 new frags. Just my .02c! :)

Now if Gresham gets a sponsor I have a nice frag for him waiting!!!

Heya Karl,

I posted on the thread in the BAR forum:

Lunch price isn't a biggie for me. Mainly, I don't like driving, so 2 hours in a car isn't very appealing. Not looking for tons of frags either. More like going just to hang out and support the fellow reefers. Especially since MARS and others come all the way to the East Bay for the BAR swap.

Trying to see if I can hitch a ride with some people :)

Karl, I wish we could do sushi, maybe if we find a place, we could hire my cousin Dave to make it for us. He's the sushi chef at Samurai and he use to work at Mikuni's(long story as to why he left). Yummy........ Now you are making me want a Orange Lady and David's special 1, 2 and 3! :) But, I'm afraid if $13 is too much for most of the members, the price of sushi will certainly push them into hiding.

I've called a few places and either the prices are too high or the space is not large enough for our group, and many won't allow a swap to happen in their fancy halls. So, if anyone else has a suggestion, then please post.
