Reidi not eating

Any advice on what to do to get them eating? Temp 74 PH 8.0, ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 40 PPM. Doing water changes every 2 days for 30%.

tankmates 1 blue spot jawfish and a bar gobie. Feed PE Mysis 6 days a week and fast 1 day. Just started using black worms to get them to try and eat but they are not. This has been going on about a week now.

Have you tried any live foods to try and spark their interest? Any discoloration of the snout (or anywhere else)? Do they react to food at all?

one snipped at some PE mysis today but not really reacting to the food. The black worms are live. Don't see any discoloration in the snout.

Blackworms are not a natural food source so the horses may not recognize them. Try adding some live ghost shrimp or live brine shrimp, that may spur them to eat.

Murf, how long have you had these horses? Do you know their origin? How about a description of the tank and setup? Any chance of a picture of the horses?

Dan, have had the horses for a year now. They are captive raised and up until a week ago were doing great. The tank is a 49 Gallon corner tank. Filtered by a Fluval 304 canister filter.

2 and yes.

Assuming there are not external lesions, I would start with a 8 to 10 minute FW dip. If this works, results are typically within 24 hours. I would also get some live foods as in tiny ghost shrimp or live mysids. Action needs to be done quickly a few more days may be too late. Tube feeding may be necessary. If the FW dip and live foods don't do it, you may have to go the antibiotic route.

seahorses have been eating, I feel much better now. Still doing water changes, 5-10 gallons 1-2 days to keep nitrates down.

I am still looking at some live foods for them. I may empty my pod population out of my reef to put in their tank.

why are you having such a problem with nitrates?

That I dont know. I will pull the canister apart this weekend and clean it completely.
