rejuvenating live rock

When I first set up my current system 7 years ago my rock was full of critters. Worms, pods, all types of hitch hikers. Over the years the population has drastically declined.

what is a good way to repopulate the system?

I have tried to add small pieces of rock and scoops of sand from other tanks but nothing gets me back to what is was like the first few years.

What fish and other critters do you have? Fish like wrasses will clean you out pretty quick.

Pods LOVE living in cheato or other macro algae balls...

I used to run a hang on refugium just for pod production and it was almost hitchcokian in there when the lights went out.
