HELP!!!

I have realized that with different thermometers comes different temps in the same tank. I have decided that instead of worrying about keeping the tank at a certain temp, get it within range and keep it steady at that temp.

Over all of your thermometers, the temp might seem a little low. What temp are you aiming for? I might would bring it up around 78 so that you have some breathing room on the high and low side, and just keep an eye on one or two of the thermometers to keep it steady.

I would trust the old-school glass thermometer over the others, but that's just me. Ones with +-1.5 means that from one to the other, there can be a difference of 3 degrees! Just keep that in mind...

Well it looks like you have an average of 75 degrees in the tank. I would just go with the temp on your controller.

Are you keeping livestock that require that low of a temperature?

I agree with USC, check them in ice water, but that may not be completely accurate, the thermometers may be calibrated for a specific range and more inaccurate out of that range.

...those ubiquitous "digital thermometers" are not reliably accurate or consistent, even among the same brand, I can speak from personal experience (owned about 20-30ish)

...then again from your own data you are within 2 degrees Fahrenheit ...I wouldn't loose any sleep (my money would be on the Apex probe tho)

cool thanks guys.

apex probe ever need to be calibarated? is it ok if it has been out of water for a few months or does membrane dry or lose accuracy?

HELP!!!

I'm tagging along.....
agree on those digital thermometers - very inaccurate. I have this Hannah unit for about two months and seem fairly accurate. http://www.hannainst.com/usa/prods2.cfm?id=041003&ProdCode=HI%2098121

I'm going to obtain one of those alcohol thermometers have heard/read they are the most accurate.

I would definitely have a secondary verification to my apex (I have two apex's) as those probes will have issues over time. I've had some already and my unit's are less than a year old. No complaints though, the guys at neptune have honored their warranty.
