Remember Reefer madness?

Some of you may remember them. They specialized in imported "wild" corals. A friend of mine here in Tally purchased several colonies from them back in "the day" and was kind enough to share some pieces with me. He has since left the hobby but i have managed to keep the frags alive. The first one in this massive green piece. 4 years ago she was a 1 inch frag.

Another piece grown from a reefer madness is the little purple coral in the rigth corner of this image. It has lime green tips and will eventually grow to the same shape as the green piece.

Both of these pieces were grown from frags taken from imported wild colonies. They have both proved to be very hardy corals and seem to be coloring up nicely.

Does anyone else have any Reefer madness corals or desendants they might be able to share?

reefer sold the company about 3-4 years ago. i think the new company may have gone under or they may have changed name. not sure though.

They went under after the sale. If I am correct but I think Chris (maybe former owner of RM), now works for Blue Zoo Aquatics.

Nope, Chris was the original owner (before that was the Livestock manager at Flying Fish Express). He left to go work for Walt Smith in Fiji. He is still there. Kris ran it after that and it was sold to Blue Zoo. Kris was most lately at Route 66, but I have heard he may have left just recently.

That is about all I know and some of the timing might be off. Chris may have sold it to Blue Zoo and Kris ran it for them, I am not sure on that detail.

I used to get some really nice pieces from Chris.

He did for a while, I remember reading somewhere on here though that he has now gone on to bigger projects. :)

They were my favorite online coral vendor, probably half of my sps in my old 125 came from them. Great selection and great prices.

The website was hilarious, I kind of miss Monte. :D

Love the pink piece second from last. Kool thing about their corals is that they are all one offs. There weren't farmed pieces so each one was different. Much more "limited" than an LE.

Hey Dave,
RM was the BOMB!
Not just corals, any species of fish you wanted, just give Chris a call and a week and he had it for you.

Great Thread!
Great Company!
Great Corals!

There was some interesting insider sting pulling with that company, but I could really care less. They sold big colonies, awesome acropora and fair prices, while Chris was AWESOME!

Servo, got two of them still alive. Both of mine are keepers and worth passing on i think. I wonder how many other in-hobby strains were established due to their imports.

Hey Znut! Hows the tank doing? Mine is finally starting to rock again....

Hi Dave,

The tank is doing very well these days. Yours is rocking from the pics. Keep up the good work :)

haha.. they were great but drove me nuts.. every time you go down to ws to fill my quota.. all the good stuff was always already "sold" to rm. >_<

I must say I envy you cali guys/gals who can walk into a major coral suppler there and cherry pick out the first wave of crazy SPS.

very envious !
