Reminder, Power Outage Season is Here

Just a reminder, make sure you have proper equipment to keep your tanks running in case of a power outage. We had a 9 hour outage today, and luckily was able to keep enough power heads running to keep the tanks somewhat stable.

Don't have a generator, but those power inverters for your car can work wonders. I was able to run a seio 820, a mag 7, and a pc light to light the house all at the same time off of one. lol

Thank goodness the power is back on.

Thank goodness for your power inverter. If it werent for that thing, we would have tanks filled with fish soup. I never would have thought to use it, and youre a genius, and that is one of the many millions of reasons why I love you :)

We were without power for 2 1/2 hours Thursday night.
Reminded me that I needed to buy a battery backup.
This is a great reminder. Thanks.

Grrr..our power went out last night at 1:30 a.m.:( Thanks to the new UPS' on the PC's, the alarms went off which alerted me to wake up. Luckily we have a service truck with a generator so just ran a couple cords in to the nano & 90.

Those invertors are great during the Ground Hogs day tornado mine kept me good for a while till I could get the generator hooked up. Two things to keep in mind though. They can run a battery down quick if the vehicle is not running, thus leaving you with an unstartable car. Also remeber when the vehicle is running you have ot be mindful of exhaust just like with a regular generator, dont want the vehicle exhaust blowing into windows and causing the whole family to have a very bad day. Be prepared but lets cross out fingers we dont have to use all these hints this year, Thanks for the reminder though I have to run thorugh setting the generator up on the new tank with my wife since chances are I will not be around to do it if the time comes.

On a side note anyone have a automatic backup plan in place? Im trying to come up with something that will run just a few powerheads in the event of power loss. Preferably battery powered and able to run 12 hours would be great, any ideas?

The power inverter was the biggest lifesaver. You just plug it into the cigarette lighter in your car, and you can plug anything with a normal cord into it. We had one of our cars running in the driveway with it for like 6 hours, and it barely used a 1/4 tank of gas. What a nice big expensive generator. I think we paid like $50 at Walmart. In our neighborhood, a tree went down in someones back yard, knocked over a phone pole, caught their yard on fire, and there were like 1,000 of us without power. Brannon and I celebrated when the power came back on at 10 last night.

Brian, buy a large UPS for a computer. lol If I didn't leave mine running the computer and internet for the first 30 minutes, I probably could have ran my tank for 6 hours or so, and I have the 40$ ups.

Imagine if you bought the 120$ one.

You just plug it in the wall, and plug your pump power strip into it. During normal power you will never notice a difference. PLUS is offers excellent surge protection.

i use mine - just have it hooked to one powerhead and it runs it for hours on a cheapie ups - i need to get one for my eel tank now :-( - more tanks more money

Hmmmm I think Ill have to go snag one and give it a shot. Im mainly worried about the first 12-24hours. I figure ill be at work and chances are if it looks like its gonna be nasty Ill drag my wife to the station as well so I need something that will turn itself on till my wife can get their and get stuff situated, thanks for the idea on the UPS Ill look into specs and see what will work:)
