Remora skimmer on 24g Aquapod. Wow

Quick question here:

How long did it take to collect skimmate for new Remora? I know instruction said it takes 1-2 weeks to break in but I'd a chance to start a new CSS 65 on thursday night and it was able to collect dark skimmate next day.

My remora gave me dark skimate the next day too, but then stopped working about 2 months later

Call customer service and they are pretty good in tech assistance and let us know.

My remora hasn't been working lately, and i dont know why. It makes bubbles, but they dont go up the collection cup... what do i do? I have cleaned it, and it helped a little, but not much...

whatnot45,
Have you check the flow such as whether the pump got clogged restricting water flow, adjusting the o-ring (lower the collection cup a bit)?

I'm 36 hrs in now after installing the remora and nothing yet, every now and then the white foam will come up to the top then comes right back down and the tank have lots of bubble but have subsided a bit since yesterday.

try raising....the skimmer body? or the cup?

I have had two Remora Skimmers. The first one was shipped from an eBay guy in Calif and arrives damaged. I did a glue repair on the cup. I put it in my tank and got foam the first day.

Surprisingly, the eBay guy sent me a new one. I made the mod on this one and put it in. It took about 2 days.

Both times I washed the units with very hot water (to loose any oils) and then rinsed them with RO water. I think if my unit wasn't working anymore, I would probably take it all out and do the hot water trick again.

Correct me if I'm wrong: I think if you raise the o-ring the cup will come down and you will collect more wet foam.

Hopefully when I get home I see some collection other than the white foam that I see for the last 2 days.

ZR--can you give me a measurement of how far down from the top is your o-ring is set? Thanks.

well after talking w/ steve, I know what the problem is... Its a fake coral that i recently got for my seahorse, and it has been releasing oils and the oils dont allow small bubbles to form XD at least thats what he says lol but it makes sense because it stopped working soon after I put the coral it

Ahhh.. well that is just great info. Who'd a thunk.. Well I guess I better take out my plastic diving man..

lol he told me to rinse it in warm water for a few hours and then it would be ok to put back in. I did, and now the skimmer is working like it never stopped! XD its making tonz of skimmate again lol

Added Refugium

Added Refugium

Well...

Long story short. Nitrates staying high, need refugium, I did a conversion. Aquafuge at LFS cost $130, I did a conversion of an Aquaclear 110 based on this thread.

The 110 and the Remora side-by-side are wider than the tank. I just used a dremel to notch the 110 on the far left side. Sounds complicated; it's not. The 110 has a lip that it uses to hang on the back. I just cut away a part of that lip on the side by the heater so that it sits nicely on the back.

Here's a schematic and a pic of the mods. The schematic is a TOP DOWN view. In case you were wondering, the entire thing sits in my fireplace.

The TAN colored bag in the back corner is the Power Phos bag Water comes in from the back sump through the longer of the clear plastic tubes into the back phosban reactor 150. It comes out of there into the 110 though shorter tube. This is where the tan bag containing the Power Phos is. It flows into the refugium which is behind that grey plastic grill. It then flows through the grill and back into the sump.

Zoe,
your tank looks beeutiful! lol Are you using the lights that came with your tank? How long have you had your clams under that light, I'm excited to think you can keep them wo mh lighting.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my cover and buying a light fixture instead so I can hang a skimmer over the side. I feel naked not having a skimmer...lol

Cali..thanks!

My lighting IS mh. I bought those lights with the tank. I've only had the clams for about 6 weeks but they are healthy as horses. I just wanted to be able to explore the full range of corals and so this was a necessity. I've recently added about 6 ricordea to this tank. I am simply out of room at this point and have to wait a few weeks till my second tank is up and running, then I will move some of these to that system. I think you could certainly do this w/o a skimmer, but it would be a different artform.

I've the AquaC Remora running for a month on the Aquapod 24gal tank and was working well then last night I was setting up the new 75gal tank and moved the Remora over and after 2 hours I noticed the foam wasn't going to the top. Matter of fact, the water level was the same as the tank and didn't see much bubble and waterflow coming out look a bit slow. I took the unit out and rinsed in hot water for a couple of minutes, took the propeller out and there wasn't anything blocking the fins. All of a sudden seems like the pump is not pulling enough water up. I can't find the instruction that came with the unit but remember the screw inside is not for bubble or water adjustment.

It was working for the 1st 2 hours the nothing. I've a couple of LRs from the 24gal tank and some that I was curing for a month in the Q-Tank. Is it possible that there's just nothing to skim?

Any idea as to what is causing the problem? Any one have the AquaC contact info?

TIA!
