remote sump and pump help

Hey Everyone,

I am looking for a pump that will perform the task of delivering enough water to and from my 250 gallon DT to the sump in the basement. Here is the trick, it has to move this water over 42~ feet as the house has a partial basement which of course would only make sense to have the office (where the tank lives) on the other side of the house :(. Is there such a pump and will it be fairly energy efficient? Thanks in advanced.

I don't think you will have to much trouble finding a pump that can handle it but how do you plan to make the drains work?

I am still looking around RC to find some ideas, but I may stick with the stock marineland durso drains as I have increased the vent hole to
allow higher flow rates.

Hmm I think even if you ran full siphon drains they would have issues with a 42ft horizontal section.

If you do figure out the drains something like a reeflo hammerhead or manta ray should do the trick for the return.

Horizontal friction losses are negligible. I have a basement sump with a 22 foot horizontal run from tank to sump, it works just fine.

OP- look on rc front page for head loss calculator, add up your planned plumbing, come up with total head loss, then find the pump that is going to pump your desired gph at your anticipated head for the lowest wattage (that fits your budget) and is going to be long term reliable.

And when you calculate system off water level for your sump, don't forget those long runs of pipe hold a lot of water, there is a calculator for that too.

If you want to stick with tried and true equipment, the reeflo blowhole 2700 may be a good option for you, depending on desired gph. I am extremely satisfied with reeflo products, and love the performance for price out of my blowhole. I don't know if any of the newer dc pumps will fit the bill or not, I have not needed a return pump for some time, so I haven't done my homework about them.
