removal of encrusted SPS that has RTNed

So, this is related to my other post, but I just wanted to see if I could get a specific response on this.

I've got an acro that has STNed/RTNed, which is epoxied directly to a rock that has several other acros on it. I've removed as much of it as I can with bone cutters, but the encrusted base is still on the rock, and I don't know how to get it off. Any suggestions? Or, is it something I need to worry about?

On that note, what if I had wanted to dip the coral in revive or something? If it's encrusted, how do you get it off to dip it?

You can use epoxy to cover the acro base if you want, but there's no reason another coral can't grow right over the top of it. I would worry more about the cause of the acro death than the dead stuff left over.

I have not read your other thread. Why do you want to dip your coral in revive?

well, i guess i don't necessarily want to dip anything in revive TODAY or anything -- it was more a general question about how you go about doing that when you have an encrusted frag/colony.

to answer your question, i certainly am concerned about what caused it to die -- i just don't have any explanation. i don't have an explanation for a lot of things happening in my tank, frankly. i'm leaning toward it being an issue with my live rock at this point.

(my other thread is here)

I just glue stuff over.. makes for some interesting growth when you have encrusting montis growing over dead acros haha.
