Removing brake shoes

No, just hold the magnet and turn the shaft so the brake shoes come out about 1/2 way. You will feel resistance and if you keep twisting they will pop out all the way.

Hmm...perhaps I am just having a brain fart, but I still cant get the magnet out of the pump. Looking at your pictures on how to clean a Tunze, I have removed the prop and the black thingamabober. I now have the white plastic which holds the prop sticking out. After that, I get little spin in the magnet without having to force it to spin, and I can't get the rest of it out.

If I happen to brake the impellar, can I order a new one?

The drive unit is stuck with calcium deposits. Your best option at this point is reattach the prop and pull hard straight up on it. If that doesn't work drive a deck screw into the magnet and pull it out. We do have new ones. Try to keep it wet, it only gets harder if the calcium deposits harden.

update: I killed the impeller that is for certain, but I still can't get the magnet out. It is just completely stuck. I have tried soaking it in vinegar and sitll nothing. So...now...lets suppose I kill the 6100 completely....can I buy a new one w/o having to buy the whole setup?
