Removing encrusted Monti from a large rock

I am going to move to a larger tank hopefully this weekend. My tank needs to be refreshed after over 5 years in its current form.

I plan on removing all my lace rock during the move and only using the live rock I have + some from another tank. Unfortunatley, I have a nice purple Monti of some sort that has encrusted to the top of a large piece of lace rock (proably 25+ pound rock). I want to save the cap by carefully braking the lace rock so I only have to put a small piece in the new tank.

How would it be best to do this? I could try cutting a section of the lace rock with a saw but I would need to keep the Cap very wet with tank water so it does not stress?

Thanks

Andrew

I'd say get a dremel tool and you can take it down with that. The coral will release slime the second it's exposed to air so it can stay out of the water for a few minutes at a time. Good luck.

I have a roto zip and could get a cutting head got the task. I must admit I am nervious going at a piece of salt water covered rock with an electric tool. Kind of sends a chill down my back.

THanks

Andrew
