Removing overflows?

I have an All-glass 220g, which has two overflows on the back wall. I'm considering the removal of both to increase space and improve appearance. I'm thinking of drilling a couple holes near the top on each end for bulkheads and drains.

Has anyone tried something similar? How did it work? Other ideas?

Thanks!:)

People have done that, but I wouldn't go that route. The overflows skim a thinner layer of water off the surface, which helps with surface film removal, and they're also a bit more immune to plugging, in my opinion. It will work, though.
